His swearing in was very emotional, seeing my son made me proud but also made me realize he was really leaving. I told him he we could leave and go home right now, that he did not have to do this. I am going to miss him so much, not being able to talk to him daily is going to be very hard, not knowing if he is ok, it was a very emotional day, I know it will get easier and this will be the longest 8 weeks of my life, my heart goes out to all of you. I am very thankful for this sight, it has helped give an insight of what he will be going thru these next 8 weeks and thanks to the moms that have been already been there and answered our questions and have given support. I am waiting for his call letting us know he is there and is ok, I am ready to get off this roller coaster ride.

Thank you, do you know what Divison you son is yet, we received Dirk's form letter as early as 3 days after he left. Yes, it is very hard, at least in college I could talk with him each day, I have been told no news is good news, I just pray they let them call tomorrow for Easter, it will be the best one ever if so, my heart and prayers go out to you also.
Hang in there ladies. I remember those first few days very well...Anything made me cry. My husband ( the father of my sailor) didn't know how to comfort me. My friends didn't understand-their children were either much younger or in college. I found my comfort here on this website. Just knowing that there were other moms who were hurting, stressed out and worried just like me helped. We helped each other get through the hard times. Remember, no news is actually good news. Real letters come at about the 3 week mark-what ever day you receive your letter will be "letter day"-they only mail once a week. They may not receive the first letters that you sent until after you receive your letter from your SR-demanding "why haven't you written me??". Heads up, chins out ladies.
The feeling you have when the door opens, makes everything worth the wait!!
