We received a call Monday night our son is  coming home. He called from the hospital and is now at Ship 5.

We are so proud of him for giving it his best shot....we knew it would be tough.  I think he has already received so many valuable lessons from this experience that I know he will be better for it.

I am very frustrated because it has been 3 days and he has been wearing the same clothes, has not been able to get his stuff and there has been no petty officer in charge.  When he tries to tell someone he doesn't have his stuff they just tell him to keep telling people. There are 170 guys on ship 5 right now and he told me it is very disorganized.  Not at all what is portrayed ship 5 to be on the Navy website. He had to borrow a phone card just to call and he sounded very down. The chaplain from our church was going to see him last night at the hospital but since he was moved to ship 5 they are not allowed in.  He has to wait until Sunday at services to make contact.

On top of that he has no ID.  Somehow he lost his license at the airport when travelling.  If we don't get some to him he will have to take the bus all the way to Washington....a very long trip by bus.  I am working frantically to get it figured out but short of going through the red cross we don't know what to do. I did call TSA and they helped alot.

I know there are many informed people on here that may be able to help so please any suggestions would be greatly appreciated:)

I'm sorry the Navy hasn't "worked out"...I would contact the USO and the Red Cross. It absolutely drives me crazy when the left hand doesn't know (or care) what the right hand is doing. AND...if you need to...get on the phone with Great Lakes and don't take no for an answer. There is no power on earth greater than a mother fighting for her child. I'll keep you and your son in my prayers!

Do you have a passport for him? You can fax a copy to the TSA.

Thanks!  no passport but the TSA told me he can use a few other things...and i'm going to send his temporary drivers license, though expired when they sent him the permanent one, at least has his picture.  Now just looking for an address to send it to.  I know I saw it here somewhere.

I got a phone # to ship 5 from another discussion and I was able to get hold of a chief that said he would make sure he got his stuff. I think when my son sees it will be okay he will feel better.

You women are wonderful!  I got his Birth certificate and some other documents sent to him today.  I got the ship 5 address from the RTC Boot Camp website.

Go to the tabs at the top, click on Groups Tab, then in the search box type Ship 5. There is a Group there called Ship 5 Moms(Formerly Ship 17), Join that Group. I am sure there will be plenty of help there. I know the Moms who run the Group, they have been doing it for over 4 years now.

Thank you so much Jacqueline....Hadn't heard about that one I'm sure it will be a great resource for me.
