So I saw somewhere in all the information I have looked at that National holidays are treated like Sundays. I has me wondering about the 4th at BC. Will there be anything special for the recruits? Will they get off base for a bit that night or anything. Does anyone know?

oh no they don't leave and will probably get nothing special, maybe just some extra down time (like a Sunday) some moms said that on Mothers Day they didn't even get a call home. My son is coming up on 3 weeks this Thursday. Our Div.has not yet received a letter or calls.. I am hoping this THurs/Fri we get mail, and I was hoping this coming weekend we get our first phone call, would love to be surprised on the 4th with a call, but not holding my breath! :)
Some of the Triple Threat and/or Honor Guard and/or Rifle Drill Team in one or more 900 divisions MAY be involved in some activities away from the RTC, but everyone else will be at the RTC. They will have Holiday Routine, which is pretty much the same as what they do on Sunday. One mom reported a year or so ago that her SR's RDC took his divisions out for a late evening march on the 4th and then had them stop and then, to their surprise, they were able to watch a fireworks display while standing at attention for 30 minutes.
Don't count on a phone call, but be pleasantly surprised if you get one. The RDC's have to schedule phone time and there are many recruits at the RTC right now, so there is no way everyone will call.
They will not get to leave. That doesn't happen unless it's Thanksgiving or Christmas, and they're like about to graduate. (it has to be the week of their graduation for that to happen, and even then, it's rare). But the day might *emphasis on the might, be more relaxed and maybe they'll get a phone call. But don't expect anything and be pleasantly surprised if something does happen!!!!
Yes holidays are treated like Sundays....NO they do not get anything special nor do they get off the base. They are in bootcamp and still recruits.
The only way they will see the fireworks is if they are in a barracks that face the main base, as the main base has fireworks.
I remember my son saying that all windows are blacked out you don't even know if it is day or night.
From what my husband said, there are windows everywhere and you can always see outside. Plus they're constantly going outside for marches and stuff like that. So maybe he was thinking of something else.
