Hi there!

Our son went to BC on 11/20. Not being able to talk with him has been so hard.  I think the holiday made it much worse. We have been writing him everyday so when we do get his mailing address and can send the letters he will know we thought of him everyday and are so proud of him. We're guessing the box will come sometime this week and hopefully his letter soon after.

Does anyone know how the holidays affect BC and PIR?  He will have 4 holidays while he is there. How about the winter storms. Do these delay training?  We live at the Grand Canyon and get snow every year, but GL will be a whole new world.

When they are able to make a call home in a few weeks will it be a certain time to expect it?  Like morning vs evening. I want to make sure we don't miss it.

TIA!

Hello Tia,

Welcome to Boot Camp Moms group. You asked how the holidays will affect BC and PIR, there won't be much of a difference from what I understand. My son was at BC during July 4th and as I recall they had the day off, but he had just gotten their, so it was like there Sunday routine and for my son, Sunday still meant he was taking care of other things that needed to be done, like polishing boots and ironing.

Depending on the length they have been at BC some recruits will have more privileges than others to be adopted out for a Christmas meal. I am not sure what other holidays you are referring to unless you mean New Years and MLK day but they will be treated like a Sunday routine if they are given off for them. PIR is not affected much, unless the holiday comes the weekend of PIR and then it may be adjusted by a day.

The snow should not affect things too much because they don't move off site. I have seen pictures of the recruits marching in the snow, I think on the RTC site.

As far as phone calls there is information posted on the main BC Moms page. Look in the right hand column, lots of posts with information, be sure to click 'view all.'  My son's calls came in the afternoon both times, but phone privileges depend on a lot of factors, so if you don't get a call, remember No news is still good news. As hard as that is for us moms.

Chipmunk

@guntersmom, our SR has called twice now.  Both times on a Sunday evening.  Unsure if this is the protocol, but our calls were on Sunday.

Hi! Our son left on 11/20 as well from Phx. They may have traveled together? I probably know less than you do, so I will be following your link!

I'm sure they did travel together.  Our son said there were several navy recruits that he traveled with.  When we spoke to him at the airport he was laughing and having a great time with the group.  It was a relief to us that he was already making friends and bonding.

Welcome Guntersmom and Cindy.  (guntersmom-- you may want to edit your username as gunter is fairly unique and identifying).

The Holidays will be treated as Sunday Routine.  Your SR will not have enough time in to get adopted out for Christmas.  Phone calls can come at anytime except Sunday Morning.  Keep your phone on LOUD and near so you don't miss one.  If you aren't allowed to have them at work you might want to ask for an exception.  Winter storms will not really impact them except they get to shovel lots of snow!! They walk (march) everywhere and they are issued all warm gear they need.  Read the files and ask any questions you can't find the answer to.  Make sure you do NOT send anything with glitter, noise(music cards) or any care packages not specifically asked for. (Contacts or Makeup for PIR is usually the only exception)
Once you get the letter you will want to join his PIR group.  You can also join the PIR Facebook page and the U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command Page for more info as well as the (Slim) chance that you MIGHT get a glimpse of your SR. DO NOT request pictures of any Training group!!! Too many requests and demanding requests caused them to not post ANY pictures for a while!! They take them at random and do not identify the TG in the pictures so it is just luck of the draw.

8 weeks feels like forever but when you get to the other side you will realize how quickly it passed.  Make plans to attend PIR if you are able and welcome to the Roller Coaster!!!

Thanks for the tip on changing my user name.

We are definitely planning on make it to PIR.

My daughter left on 11/21/18. We received her belongings today but still awaoting our form letter.
My son left 11/20 as well. Missing him so much!

We still have not received his box.  Has anyone else not received their box yet? Getting a little worried about it.

@rangermom. My daughter left 11/21 and still no form letter but we did get her box. You have to sign for it. Is there any way you missed it?

Did it come fedex. ups, or postal service?

The box comes FedEx.  You have to sign for it.

Sometimes they decide to donate their stuff and so there will be no box.  Did they have a phone?  They usually mail those back but if it's just clothes they may not.  That is the biggest reason that the box may not be there yet.  If they were coming home, you would have been called by now!  I know it's hard but No News is Good News!!
