Anyone ever not get that short phone call upon arrival? My son went to BC yesterday. I expected a call from him late last night but nothing. I did speak to him when he arrived at the airport and he texted when they were getting on the bus to head to Great Lakes. But i thought everyone got a phone call.
I can only hope that he didn't lose anything (phone card, wallet) or that the phone card didn't work.  We did make sure it worked at home.
It's making me a little anxious this morning.

At least they had their cell phones...glad to have spoken to him after he landed.  He sounded good, but tired.

Our son had his cell phone as well and we were blessed enough to get the very short call that he was there and all was fine about midnight last night...I'm so sorry to the ones who didn't get the call, I know it must be really hard not to worry but like the other moms have said, you know they're fine and in good hands...It will just make the next phone call you get that much sweeter!   Praying for all the sailors and their families!

My daughter left for GL on 9=20=11  Let me tell you, that short 30 second phone call was one of the most emotional calls I have ever had. She sounded so scared, nervous and is if she could rund through the phone cord home to me, she would have. She was already exhausted and did have time to tell me that they would not be going to bed that night.

That phone call is a double edged sword! It may be the last time you get to talk to your SR for quite some time, but as mothers, it was enough to rip your heart out! Sobbed, sobbed, sobbed!  Second call was a little better!  kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

OMG  I dozed off and that is my SR's first initial so I cannot erase it!!  Well,, time to go to bed!!

Well, the call finally came at 6:13 pm on Tuesday. He arrived last night. He told me why he didn't call, but he said it so fast, I couldn't understand him. He said he's fine and would call in three weeks. I said "you're okay?" He said yes, love you and I gotta go. 23 seconds! I'm so glad I got the call. Now just wait!
I'm So Happy you got your call Celianj!!!

@ brothers, I can definitely see how it could be a double edged sword..if my daughter had called me scared and emotional it would have been really really hard to deal with...
I'm so glad everyone's doing ok, it'll only get better from here mamas!
I never got the call from BC, only from the airport.....Hang in there, it's gonna be a looooonnnnnnggggg nine weeks, but so worth it!
I am reading these posts and tearing up for all of you!!! My sailor PIR'd on 10/7 that was one of the proudest moments in my life and she says her happiest day ever!!! She had such a feeling of accomplishement.  I do agree that first phone call  was a heart breaker she sounded scared and alone...then the next phone call the division was being punished for 2 others mistakes, so she was mad and crying again.....again I was left with an empty feeling. There were a couple of other times that the division got phone calls but she was always on watch. Then the I'm a Sailor call, the moment I had been waiting for!!!! I'm telling you ladies nothing quite like it! Oh I am crying just at the memories. Enjoy this ride ladies, lean on each other and believe me it really does go quicker than you think..
