Is it more common than not for the parents to be at MEPS the day the recruit leaves for BC?  Wanted input from others.

I had planned to attend but my husband(former Navy) said its time for him to do this on his on.  I know he is capable but would like to be there for his active duty swear in.  And then meet him at the airport (if its going to be some time before he flys out).

Proud mom and want to share in all this, he has done everything else up to this point without us.

Thanks

Mom1994 my husband said the same thing and I made him take me. Take the advice of those on here and go. You won't regret it! We saw him swear in and hung out with him until they lined up to leave. We didn't go to the airport with him. There are many recruits that will have families there. I think our son was happy we were there for him.

Evening, my sin has been in the Navy 2 years now. I went down to Miami, stayed in the same hotel, kept my distance so he could socialize with the other sailor recruits. Asked if he wanted with any of his friends to go out for a steak dinner. He invited 2 guys to join us After dinner I hung out in my room and read, he and the other guys hung out at the pool and later that night watched a game on television. The next morning we met in the lobby, he gave me his clothes from the night before and bathing suit and stuff, and caught the bus to MEPS. I followed the bus. Signed in and sat in the lobby with quite a few other parents. Later when they swore in half the recruits had family there. Afterwards some family left, I stayed, my son was in and out of various paperwork items. When it was time for the airport, he told me he didn't want me there so we said good-by I hugged quite a few of them and wished them all luck as I had met many when they were in DEP and watched the bus depart and I headed home. So YES there parents there, one young gentleman had parents, siblings, grandparents and a couple of aunts uncles and cousins. This was in Miami. If your son agrees, go...you won't regret it..

My daughter left for BC on Wednesday we attended her MEPS . Was able to stand by her as she was sworn in that was a moment of a lifetime, to witness your child grow up in front of your eyes. We also got to spend time with her before she left for the airport, we left it up to her if she wanted us there and she did. We wanted to do want made it easier on her. But being there was a very proud time for us. It also made the I made call a lot easier because she was able to text us while waiting on her flight .

I was there at MEPS with my son, it was a wonderful experience, and one I will remember forever.  A tip though, it is a long wait and be prepared for that, you need a charged cell phone, for that last picture, and bring Kleenex.
