I have a question about our SR's pay.  My son left 12/11/18 for Boot Camp.  As of today, he has not received a paycheck.  He did not sign up for a Navy Federal Credit Union account - he had an existing account (Chase).  He took his banking info with him to BC and advised us he did turn that in when banking was discussed with recruits.  Is it normal for paychecks to take this long?  They're paid 2x/month, right?  I know they deduct a lot from their first paycheck so I wasn't surprised not to see anything too soon.  Is it normal for the recruits to not receive a paycheck after being at BC over a month?  And does it take longer to get to the bank if it's not a Navy Federal Credit Union account?  Thanks!!

He should get paid this month on the 15th. Navy federal has a new policy for active duty checking accounts that enable them to get paid a day or so earlier. Chase should be on the 15th. (Of course, God willing)

Yes, it takes about a month - 1.5 months for the first paycheck to go into the SR's account, depending on when they arrived at RTC. Also, there is a Navy Federal Credit Union on site at RTC. They may only be able to talk to the recruits on certain days, but there is a branch on site.

And as Amanda0602 stated, those who have a Navy Federal Credit Union Active Duty account should receive their check in their account a day or so early.

My son left about the same time & had a partial deposit to his existing account on 12/31.

My son left for BC on 12/11 and his first auto deposit into a regular bank was on 12/31. I(I think it was a partial check). Hopefully you will see something soon.

They get paid the 1st and 15th, sometimes a few days earlier depending on when these 2 days land (from what I’ve seen with the last checks I’ve received) The money should be deposited tomorrow or Tuesday.

Thank you, everyone, for the replies!!  And thank you, Chipmunk, for the link.  I should've searched for that first before asking!

You are welcome! We do try to direct the newcomers to the pages on each group, but it can also be very overwhelming. I use my computer but I think on cell phones, it may be harder to navigate. Hopefully, the paychecks will start coming through soon. I didn't know about this site when my son first went to BC and his delayed paycheck was one thing I was concerned about and called NFCU to see if they knew anything. After I found this site and the posted page on Pay, I realized that there were a lot of answers here, I just had to look for them.

Your son might want to look into NFCU, if nothing else for some of their Early Start savings program options. Some of their interest earning rates are better than other banks or credit unions. My son kept his bank account that we had set up for him with our bank, but also opened one with NFCU. For various reasons, he has decided that it is a good idea for him to have both.
