For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Hi. My son arrived on 11/29. He got to call home today!! He said he bought a phone card. My question is, can I send him a phone card, or is that not allowed?

Angela: they are given a small box to put their personal belongings in and it is stored for them. The box is returned to them right before they ship out for A School. They used to send all of their belongings home but last I knew, they were still storing them on base.

Ladies -- One thing to keep in mind is that a lot of the information that is out there as well as a lot of the information on here was from before Covid. That has caused a lot of changes to the timelines as well as the whole experience. As for the calling card in the Original question... If they buy one at BC they will not need another one in 99.9% of the cases. It's also easier for them to get them a pay phone calling card at BC since pay phones are not common anywhere else.
I know it's so hard to wait and wonder. We got pulled into this life when our children chose to sign up to serve. It may not have been the life we expected but it's where they have taken us. The emotions are all over the place. Know that you are not alone!
I also encourage you to post in the main BC moms thread as well. Not every one sees the sub-discussions so you may get answers quicker by posting there. -
