I see that they have opened up PIR to two visitors starting with the August 13th ceremony. For those of you that have a SR graduating before then, this makes me sad...but It sure made my wife happy to know we will get to see our boy. he should be about a week out of quarantine, so I am hoping to get that form letter in the next week or so.

My son is not staying in GL after PIR, his A school is in another state. Has anyone heard if they will be given liberty after PIR, or is it dependent on when they ship out for their next assignment? I heard they may have to quarantine again before shipping out.

When I graduated back in 1995, my parents were able to come to PIR and take me to a Cub's game the Saturday afterwards, it was an amazing experience and I hoped to be able to do the same for my boy.

Welcome Mm2DrewSS!

Here's the FB page that gives some info about liberty after PIR.  Things are still a little wonky to say the least but it appears we are moving in the right direction with things opening up.  Often times (pre-covid) they would fly out right away but occasionally they might have a day or so delay.  Hopefully as you get closer to PIR your SR will be able to give you more info.

We haven't formed the September PIR group yet - we are waiting for RTC to post the last PIR date.  Keep an eye out in the main discussion area of this group and once we have it up I'll post the link.

Welcome Mm2DrewSS!,

We are glad you are here. here's another link for you.

For more news from Recruit Training Command, visit www.navy.mil/local/rtc

Hopefully you'll be able to see him like we did before COVID.

Welcome MM2DrewSS -- Thank you for your service.  The Short answer is We Don't Know.  The hoped for answer is Yes they will have liberty on Friday at the very least.  Again we don't have any specific information that either confirms or refutes that assumption.  We also cannot say when they would be shipping out to A school either. In the "Before Times", They typically shipped out on Saturday or Sunday.  It was rare for them to go to THU (Temporary Holding Unit).  Now, It's been all over the place.  Only when the first few groups have PIR in person and can report back to the group will we have more concrete information unless RTC posts something, which as of today they have not.
