I see you joined one of the San Diego groups - here's another San Diego group you might try asking your question in.  Hopefully someone will chime in with an answer for you!

San Diego

Also, encourage her to join us here as it's not just for mom's.  She should be able to find some  groups that will interest her.

And here's the link to the Christian Navy Moms group - she can request to join this group too:

Thank you!

Proudmom314 - we would be happy to welcome your daughter and you in our Christian Navy Moms group. We don't post and chat a lot like the BC Moms group but when someone asks for prayer or such we usually respond.

Is your son (sailor, I assume) assigned to a vessel? I am not familiar with San Diego and Phoenixmom who is more familiar with SD is taking a break from the site for some medical issues, but generally the ship or boat that your sailor is assigned to has an ombudsman and an FRG (Family Readiness Group). My son is on the east coast, but our FB ombudsman group will get a lot of postings and comments. The Ombudsman groups, if there is one, are generally closed and private, they have to ask permission to join because that is where ship information is passed along, so it is not a public area like many FB groups are and this one. They will have their name visible, - just in case you are not very FB savvy. I personally don't do FB but my husband keeps up with things there for me.

Our FRG group usually posts things as well, I believe for the sailors and their families or at least let you know what is going on.

I have benefited greatly from all the support I have received from the time my son went to GL almost 2 years ago now. Hard to believe. I am praying that somehow I can find a connection in San Diego for my daughter n law. She is not adjusting well to the liberal California lifestyle. She was raised ultra conservative and desperately misses spending time with christian woman in prayer and service. It has been difficult especially with Covid restrictions to find a church and out reach groups. She is young and would benefit from fellowship during the transition into Navy wife.

Proudmom314 - I am hopeful that you are able to find something for your DIL. I am going to assume that you may not be part of a denomination, as that would be my first suggestion to reach out that way as far as finding a church. Another option is to look up churches online and see who might have groups for young women.

Proudmom314 -- I lived in San Diego when my Hubby and I were first married and he was in the Navy (1988-2004) I know how lost I felt as a new wife and so far from all I knew.  I cried from Barstow to San Diego because it was so brown and barren (grew up in CO and attended 2 years of university in Louisiana).  However, I attended a couple of churches and one of the ones that my pastor back home had suggested happened to be near where we lived.  I was shy too and scared but I figured that if they were Christ followers they may as well get to know me now since they would be stuck with me for eternity in Heaven!  I had to reach out since most of them were local and already had friend groups but once I did I found life long friends that I still keep in touch with to this day! I reached out to one of my friends from my church out there.  I don't know what part of the city she is in but my friend is in East County.  Her Daughter is a Navy Wife and may be able to help her connect.  There a a Bunch of really great Conservative churches but yes the SoCal lifestyle is a bit of a shock to the system.  It took some time for me to get over seeing folks in jeans and shorts in Sunday Morning services.  If she wants to reach out my friend is Amie Butler and she can reach her at amie@littleangelssd.org .  If you want to share what part of town she is in I can try and find some good local churches for her to try.  Once she has a few good friends it does get easier.  I moved back to CO in 04 and I still miss San Diego!! It can be a beautiful place to be once you get to know it.  What denomination is she looking for?

They are in Paradise Valley/paradise hills, which looks not too far from National City. She was raised Pentecostal and my son was brought up Catholic. I think there is room for compromise.

Thank you for your help. I will pass along your friends information.

Proudmom-- I sent you a friend request-- If you send me her name I will let my friends know so they can keep an eye out for her message.
