I have my Son's address; Ship002 Div 950.... It's a performance division - he will be drumming. It's my second time around for boot camp. My oldest Son graduated a year and 3 months ago. He is currently stationed at Fort Gordon in Augusta GA. My middle son, who is currently in boot camp, was hoping to be able to re-quailfy for rescue swimmer while at boot camp. He qualified prior to shipping but it was too close to his ship date so he wasn't allowed to be put in the draft or offered a contract :(.... It's really what he wants to do... I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I hope he is doing well. I'm expecting the BOX on Tuesday. Sent off my first letter yesterday. The waiting/no communication is the worst. I miss him tons..... "Navy beer moms"????
Since your Recruit is in a performing division, you may also want to join the Group, 900's division sailors. There will be information on there that relates to your situation. Here is a site I found that explains about 900 Divisions, The Requirements for the Navy RTC 900 Division
There are 3 types of 900 divisions. There are the Band/Bluejacket Choir/Drill team, otherwise known as Triple Threat (the musicians, singers, and drill team), the Sticks (those who carry the state flags), and the Ship Staff/Honor Guard (the body snatchers, those who guard various things...). Three 900 divisions perform their duties at each PIR, the 900 division(s) from that TG and if needed one to three 900 divisions from the next one or two TG's. Each 900 Division performs in their own PIR and in the PIR for one or two TGs ahead of their own. They may also have performances in the community--that happens mainly for the Triple Threat though. I believe that Division 950 is Ship Staff/Honor Guard, so it is possible that he will do something other than "drumming" as you indicated.
Ship Staff is in charge on PIR day. They greet and welcome the Officers and their distinguished guests as Sideboys, they play the role of "Body Snatcher" walking up and down the rows of Sailors, watching for and sometimes catching any Sailor about to or going down. (They lock their knees sometimes and pass out). They help the Navy Corpsmen in the back room, they Guard doors and perform a myriad of tasks behind the scenes and in front. It is their job to help make sure all goes smoothly. The Honor Guard Drill Team (they're the ones with the yellow ascots) also does a rifle performance at the beginning of the ceremony.
Watch the RTC’s fB page beginning 2 weeks before your SR’s PIR and you may catch a glimpse of your SR if they post pics.
Did you get the form letter or get the address from the recruiter? If you have received the form letter, let FTLW know the PIR date (post on the main page of this group) because she will be starting the PIR group for that TG this week. If you received the address from the recruiter, be sure to double-check the address against those at http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/contact_recruit.asp since recruiters sometimes give a generic address for the RTC and if the street address is not correct, it can delay mail to your recruit for up tp 3 weeks.

Hi, We received our sons box last week. It came on Wednesday and he just left on Monday. Which we thought was fast. Now if only we would get the other information including his graduation date. Our other son is getting married and I am afraid that Kevin's graduation will be the weekend of the wedding. If so we'll be splitting the family to attend both activities. Just praying it not the same weekend. Long story of why the wedding is going on without his other brother, I guess that explains why I have gray hair!
His PIR date is most likely 10/26/2012, but it could be the week after if the RTC skips a week, but that doesn't often happen this time of year (now if it were a month later, that would be a different story). That was fast for "the box" getting to TX!
If your SR is in another division besides 950, PIR could be the week before because he could be in a Push Division.
I just found out my fiance is in ship 2 div 950. Do you have any other info on it? I got his ship/div from his recruiter and I am still waiting on his form letter. Does the form letter explain more about his division or should I just wait on him to explain it? I am kind of excited if he is in the honor guard division! :)
Stephanie ...I just got my sons form letter and he is in ship 2 division 950 also
If you received the address from the recruiter, go to http://bootcamp.navy.mil/contact_recruit.asp and double-check the address. Her PIR will be 11/02/2012. The PIR group for that date is to be formed this evening. Watch Boot Camp Mom's or go to http://www.navyformoms.com/forum/topics/groups-listed-by-pir-dateand join the group once it has been created.
Since your Recruit is in a performing division, you may also want to join the Group, 900's division sailors. There will be information on there that relates to your situation. Here is a site I found that explains about 900 Divisions, The Requirements for the Navy RTC 900 Division
I believe that Division 951 is Sticks/Flags.
Sticks/Flags does an incredible march perfectly timed and executed to the drum corps cadence. It is their job to present the flags for every state in the union. They are lined up by height, so the flow looks better, so your recruit will probably not get to carry their home state flag. They also honor those who have gone before by presenting the POW and MIA flags, as well as the US flag.
Watch the RTC’s fB page beginning 2 weeks before your SR’s PIR and you may catch a glimpse of your SR.
