Hello,
I'm very new to this. How do I find a group where our sons/daughters have the same date for starting bootcamp?
Thank you for your help :-)

Thank you so much! I'm sure I'll get the hang of it after awhile. I have tons of questions! How do I find the group leaving in August? I tried search and had no luck, is there an easy way to find it?
I see below that you found the group, DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in August. You will meet others with loved ones leaving that day/week who may be in the same TG and have PIR together. Be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for the RTC.
Hi lemonelephant,
You seem to be the veteran and so helpful. I've asked in a few different places about the day before they leave for bootcamp and the day of but I'm still unsure of the process. Do you know exactly what happens? My son will be leaving out of Jacksonville on August 21, we are driving him up the day before and want to spend the day with him. His recruiter told him that he has to report at 3 pm but I thought I saw in other places that families have had dinner with their SR. What happens after they are sworn in, can we see them off at the airport or do we say goodbye after they are sworn in. I apologize if I have missed this information somewhere, I'm still trying to work my way around this site.
Thank you for your help
There is a link to a discussion by Arwen at the bottom of Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for... that will tell you more about the MEPS experience. The day before your future Sailor ships he will go to the hotel. He will have to report at a certain time, but yes, you will be able to have dinner with him and he will have a time when he must report to his room. Some recruiters allow the future Sailors to leave the hotel for dinner and others only authorize dinner in the hotel dining room--your future Sailor will be given info on that when he reports. He will have a curfew that day and you will not be allowed in the hotel room with him at any time. Once your recruit is sworn in, then you can see him off at the airport if he wants you to. The recruiter can get the info to you on how you can get a gate pass to accompany your Recruit to the gate at the airport if you plan to do that. (Note that I switched from "future Sailor" to "Recruit" within my reply. He is a "future Sailor" until he is sworn in at MEPS prior to leaving for the RTC and then he is a "Recruit". He will be a "Sailor" once he passes BST near the end of BC.)
Thank you so much for all your help, that was great information, exactly what I needed!
I found the group for DEP-leaving for bootcamp in August, is the next group that I should look for the PIR date one?
Yes, the PIR group is next. If you have not joined the group/s for your future Saior's rating, you can do that anytime between now and the end of BC. What is your future Sailor's rating (job/specialty) going to be? There are groups for most ratings and/or "A" Schools and knowing that will help you to better plan for PIR weekend. (If you do not want to post here, leave a comment on my page and I will let you know the info for the rating.)
He's going to Nuke School. I joined Nuke moms, so far that's the only one I found. If you know of any other groups, that would be great. Thank you again for all your help.
You may also want to check out Nuke School Charleston and Nuke A School FAQ. The Rating Information Card for NF can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/nukepower.pdf. Your Sailor will most likely fly out to "A" School the day after PIR. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend to help you know how to plan your weekend.
I tried writing a question on your page but don't see where to put it. Do I have to add you as a friend first?
You can add a question to my Comment Wall on my My Page at the bottom. I delete comments after I have responded to them, so it may be empty when you get there, but just go to the bottom and leave a comment there.
The veterans on this page will usually form a group specifically for your child's PIR date. It might be about a week or two after they leave for BC since that's about the time everyone receives their form letters with their dates. Keep watching for it and then you can join it when the time comes. Good luck!
