This is my first attempt at posting. I have been lurking for a week or so now. The information has been such a blessing. I signed up a few weeks ago but it has been very busy around here prepping for our SR to leave. So today he left for his final MEPS and tomorrow we will get to go watch him swear in and he will fly out for GL. Loved the idea of doing a challenge while my SR is gone. I have been training with him while we were waiting for him to ship out and that was a nice addition to our days. I may try to continue that or since we homeschool maybe having everyone finished with school and grading complete by PIR. This is all very new to me. I was an army brat but it is another world being the parent of a service man. Thank you for the site. I look forward to hearing about the other SRs heading out.

Blessings,

Momof9: WELCOME, yes this site really is a blessing the ADMINS re really helpful and nice....everyone is very very helpful and we all encouraged each other. Good luck!

Momof9, Welcome to our club.  I am not going to lie..tomorrow will be rough, but you will get through it.  We are all here to support you and answer questions etc.  If you decide you want to join our Bootcamp mom challenge, you are more than welcome to.  You can find that post on my page.  Good luck and sending many prayers to you and your family in the weeks to come.

My son swears in tomorrow as well-he is 28 and we are so proud of him. Where are you from? I am in Lanoka Harbor NJ

We are from south Mississippi. Right on the coast. Did quite a bit of crying this passed week but felt very proud as we took our other children today to say their last good-byes. This probably sounds silly but doing the laundry is so hard as I come across his things and know that they have to be packed away. My SR is 19. Thank you ladies for the encouragement.

Hello & welcome Momof9 -we all know the new, strange, proud, sad combo pack. It's so out of the norm, it's going to be a rough couple of days, but gratefully they are in good hands & so are you!

There are so many wonderful people, you will find encouragement & ideas, as well as information out the wazoo! Today I found a group that sews these bright and soft pillowcases to send to Sailors and marines.... They've sent hundreds, thousands of pillowcases!  Totally Fantastical!

Sending prayers to you all.

Momof9, welcome. Yes, this will be very different. I was also an Army brat. There is also a whole different vocabulary.

Check your My Page.

Momof9, my son is also leaving tomorrow...he is staying at the hotel tonight. We will go in the morning for his swearing in ceremony.  My whole family has written down the things we will do daily while he is at bootcamp...pushups, situps and running!  We told him to think of us doing it everytime he is (even though we have it easy!). Good luck to you tomorrow!

Welcome!    This site is awesome, so much information!  My daughter left a week ago today, still waiting for the box.  For me, the worst part is not being able to contact her.  I want to know what she's doing, what she thinks about boot camp.   No tears here, other than for the pride I have for her.  Good luck this next week.

MATTSMOM: Oh, how I know how you feel... Seems like yesterday I took my baby tO MEPS. And then to the hotel and then he was on the bus. After I left MEPS it was a longggggg drirve home. I walked in the house the dog looked at me and I looked at the dog we both consoled each other lol. I walked around like I lost my best friend (which I did) and when I got the BOX I really was a mess I looked at my child's pants legs rolled up and YEP I smelled his clothes. I found this site and oh my gosh this site has helped me these past weeks I look forward to the friends I've met on here everyone is great! LO and behold the weeks flew by and next Friday with the grace of God I will be at my baby's graduation, welllllll HES now my young man soon to be sailor. I missed him tremendously but I'm so very proud of him and soon you'll be next! Keep the faith and don't cry too much when I spoke to my son he sounded great which made me feel better. He also said the food was good. LOL... GOOD LUCK
Drew,
Thanks for the words of advice and encouragement! I'm so proud of him making this decision but I hate the no contact....I know it will all be worth it at graduation! Can't wait to meet all the moms here! Thanks so much to everyone who shares advice here...I have learned so much already!
Well, he is on his way. Left him as he was getting ready to get on the bus headed for the airport. Not very sad today but very proud!
MOMOF9: Congrats to you and your future sailor!
