Who else has a SR leaving for GL this week?

My son is at the hotel right now. We will go see him take his Oath in the morning and spend a bit more time with him before he leaves.

Welcome Vickie!! You'll find SO MUCH information here and support....I'm amazed.

Don't get overwhelmed and don't try to read it all at once! If you have questions, of course, ASK!

I know how you feel about your SR being your only one...I was a single mom until he was about 8 and it's been really tough to let him go. I know you're proud, a little scared and of course, sad that he's not with you. Think though how PROUD you are that he's chosen such a courageous and selfless path, and be certain in your conviction and support (Yes, even when you're feeling lost and abandoned!! We're right here for you!)

No news is good news...that's our motto out here. Don't worry about what you didn't do (the swearing in) and what you may or may not be able to do (things happen) but instead focus on what you can do...write letters, send cards and stamps, calling cards (make sure they're activated before hand) (see callforrecruits.com) and just make the best of what may seem like an eternity.

We're right here...Moms in Arms!
Have a great day...and go ahead and begin writing those supportive and upbeat letters...for when you do get the address!

Good morning all!
I hope that everyone is feeling better and slowly having less "weepy time" day by day.

Yesterday I cleaned my SR's room...today I'll do his bathroom...I'm slowly trying to get the house back to "normal" since I let a lot go that last week he (and all of his friends) were here celebrating and spending quality time.

I've been reading posts on the other pages and it seems like many of the Moms out there are feeling a lot of the same feelings....it's so good to know I have a place to come and bond, vent and support!! My husband has been almost no help with that, since he doesn't understand..."What do you mean, How do I feel?" Oh, right, sorry...you're a guy!!LOL. I know that the Dad's must miss them too, but they process in a different way.

So, my question for today is: How have the fathers been dealing with this? Anybody?

Thanks...and have a great day!

L.,

My hubby has not said much about our SR being gone. He was trying to talk car stuff to me the other night and I think that is when it Really hit him. He doesn't say anything to me and our daughter when we cry. I asked him last night if there was anything that he wanted me to write in my letter to our SR and he said that he would write him this weekend. My husband listens to me talk about missing our son and he's watched me do what I feel I need to do. He is supportive, but I honestly don't think he knows how to handle this.  I have suggested that my hubby go to the Navyfordads site, so that he can get the kind of support that I have here. I don't know how much he has visited it though.

Out perusing the site and found this one:

May be another helpful place to go.

Enjoy!

Just wondering if anyone close the GL area has gotten their box yet.

I'm ready to get it so that I can deal with those feelings all over again.

Just think ladies, this time in approx 7 weeks or so, we will be watching our Sailors graduate.

I texted my SR's recruiter today to see if he'd gotten any information. He said he hadn't but he'd let me know when he had...anyone else heard anything or gotten their box?

L.

Hmm  my son left that day too...  but recruiter didn't know anything today..  is your son Spec Ops by any chance?  I wonder if that makes a difference..  he said maybe Monday he could find out the address..

Nope, he's a nuke....I think because of the holiday though, things might have been delayed...like mail and the box!

I hope Monday will be the day...I'm ready to wash some more dirty clothes after cleaning his room yesterday!LOL

That's great, Wendy.  My son's recruiter told me to call Monday for his address.  Waiting patiently.

grrr, I called recruiter yesterday and he hasn't returned my call!!!

So glad I found this site! My son left Monday & its been a LONG week of not knowing what to expect...so this has helped tremendously! feeling a little less crazy now lol--Amy

My son left on Tuesday.  My sister and I went to MEPs and watched him swear in.  The plan was that they would go to the airport and we could sit with him while he waited, so we left for the airport after the swearing in.  I got a text from Sam as soon as we got to the USO lounge at the airport that they had decided to drive up.  I didn't get my final goodbye :(   We did text back and forth for several hours which was nice and I got the 30 second phone call about the box and possibly another phone call in 3 weeks later that night.  That was it, he was gone.

He was a huge presence in this house and I really miss him but I am so, so, so very proud of him.

This site is extremely helpful.  I appreciate all the good info.
