Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Today is the day!
My son left this morning for boot camp, I am excited yet nervous for him. My only question as of now is if parents are divorced,will both receive information regarding PIR? I am sure I will find out as the weeks go on, but for some reason I am fearful of missing out.....I just need to relax, right? He is my only boy, my youngest and I am having a bit of trouble with him going off to become a man....sigh....

Sailormom01 - Welcome to N4M ! I am replying so you have a response, hopefully, someone with more knowledge will comment soon, but I know some of our regulars have been busy today.
My understanding is that only one form letter is sent out. The form letter is what will tell you about PIR and also have the security form that needs to be turned it, as well as their mailing address.
I don't have any clue as to whether or not your son was living with you or his father and that doesn't really matter. The most important thing is to hopefully be able to communicate with your son's father any information that you receive or ask him to do the same. Depending on the PIR, they will be allowed either 3 or 4 tickets and they are the ones to decide who they put down on their list, even from the security form being signed.
This can be a sticky situation depending on how things are with the family, so I hope you have open communication.

Lemonelephant and others have put a lot of information together to answer you questions.

Sailormom01—No they only send info to one place. You and your Ex will have to share information. They can send letters to both. You can try calling his cell phone before he gets on the bus in Chicago and discuss this with him. Chipmunk's reply is spot on!

If he doesn't send it to you you can also try asking the recruiter and they might know but depends on a few things and no one will know the address until probably week 3.

Dana-- We really advise not asking the recruiters. They are not supposed to give out info (OPSEC/PERSEC) and it is not their job any longer, finally they may not have the most up-to-date info. That is part of the reason I suggested that she call him to discuss whom he is planning to send the form letter to.

My son just got to boot camp earlier this month. His dad and I are divorced and I got the letter. Of course it also helps that my son only knows my address and has no clue what his dads address is lol. I agree with another comment on here, if he still has his phone call or text him before he gets on the bus to see where he will send the letter.

I am in same situation. Only he is my only child. He's 23 and it's just been him and I since he was born. My mom said to allow myself to "mourn", as he will not come home the same as he left. But to look forward to the new man he will be. The information will be sent to the address your son/daughter turns in. My son was told to have a pocket notebook with the address written in it for that reason. He also wrote down his banking information and other important phone numbers. I am a single mom as well and will need to send out an email to his dad's family with any info I receive. We don't speak anymore so sending an email makes that easier. We will only have that day, after the ceremony, to spend with my son. So I will have to share the time with his dad. Hope that helps.
