Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

What to do in Chicago

My son called this weekend and said after graduation he would like to see the sites and not waste time hanging at the hotel :-) What are 1 or 2 must sees as we are pretty sure he will only have the afternoon/early evening? I know downtown Chicago is beautiful and a lot of great restaurants - thinking it's going to be freezing!

Be sure to have lunch at the top of the John Hancock building. The view of the lake is magnificent! I also recommend the Shedd Aquarium and the Museum of Science and Industry. The Navy Pier is nearby also. We enjoyed driving along the Magnificent Mile for views of the lake and the city. Wishing you a great trip!

I would suggest going to see the Bean, it is really cool! There are so many great places to eat in Chicago...I would get him to one of the great pizza joints...like Lou Malnatis or Pizzeria Uno or Due.

My sons PIR WAS 12/22 and it was freezing!!!!! We're from the Boston area and I was never sooooo cold !!!! The bootcamp facility is right next to one of the Great Lakes !!!!! We took the train into Chicago cause we didn't rent a car and it was great!!! cheap and easy to use :). We had to see the downtown and the "Bean" a taxi driver we waved down gave us a deal cause it is a good walk from the train station. We wanted to go on the glass balcony which is at the top of the old Sears tower but the line was way too long .. Congratulations on your new sailor, you both should be very proud !!!! Welcome Aboard !

I just got back from PIR and unless your Sailor has A school in GL you really wont have time to head in to Chicago. With that being said we had all weekend and we went to Navy Pier, Cloud Gate, Shedd Aquarium and took a water taxi which was really cool. We were going to the top of Willis Tower but it was a 3 hour wait to get to the top. I do suggest taking the train in, that was the easiest and least expensive way.

thank you I guess we really wont know until he gets his orders. I am hearing he has to be back by 9pm from some and 6 pm from others. Thanks for the info!
