I know many of us have been following the drama unfold in Japan.  We received this note from our ombudsonman last night.

The Surface Force Ombudsman Team is looking for assistance in collecting non-cash items to help boost the food locker to better support our displaced Navy families as they come through San Diego.  So far there are 35 families that have come to San Diego and are being well taken care of by Fleet and Family Service Center and other resource teams.  These families are staying in hotels and have arrived with whatever baggage they brought.

In order to help us better take care of our displaced Navy families, we are asking for your assistance.  If you would like to donate the below items to help out.  Some of our great Ombudsmen will be manning up the Force Ombudsman office on the following dates and times to accept these generous collections:

Saturday, March 26th from 12noon to 2pm,
Tuesday, 29 March from 9am-12pm, and
Friday, April 1st from 10am-12pm.

Items needed to be collected:

   Personal care/toiletries
   Snacks for families with children
Fresh fruit and vegetables (hotel has fridge/microwave)
   Baby diapers
   Baby formula
   Baby wipes
   Baby toys
   Microwavable foods
   Coloring books/crayons/toys/games for children

No cash can be accepted please.

Please bring your donations to the Force Ombudsman office aboard Naval Base San Diego, Bldg #265, across the parking lot from FFSC and up the hill from the commissary.

Saturday, March 26th from 12pm-2pm,

Tuesday, 29 March from 9am-12pm, and

Friday, April 1st from 10am-12pm

I did check and we can not just send money.  Like me I know several of us have families and dependents stationed in the San Diego area.  Perhaps these family members would be willing to do the shopping and deliever, if you are able to fund the purchases.

I am shipping money to my DIL today and she will be doing my shopping for me.  Perhaps some of you can do the same?

I just know how I would feel as a mother if it was my DIL and grandchildren that had to be displaced.  Not all familes have the means to swoop in and provide for their familes as Dave and I could if it was ours. God bless.

not a mom but my fiance arrived yesterday 2/23/11 at RTC/BC. I'm from Southern California (pomona to be exact) currently living in San Rafael (NorCal). anyone else have a loved one shipped out on or around this day? I heard from him when he got to the airport. now i'm waiting on his box and form letter. Can we get the address from his recruiter by this afternoon or by tomorrow. I already  have pages of letters and its only been a 1.5 days since i saw him.
