Hi Marissa, good to hear from you! I know someone from our group went to GL to visit but I can't remember how it was....

Tonya, Lynn and Marion, I also got the "I'll call you later" thing, what's up with that? I wait all week for a call, finally do it myself, and then "he's in line at the store." He did call back after about 3 hours....geez do they think we wait by the phone? LOL

Hi Judy, from what I've seen it varies a lot. My son was told that the Navy won't keep someone on hold for more than 30 days unless it's for medical reasons, but that was if they (the sailor) request it for some reason. Sometimes they are waiting for a group to fill up. My son was on hold for a week after BC. I know that doesn't help much...

Lynn, we're here for you on your next trip to BC!

Is that Dori and Trent on the main page? Just looks like them....

Yes, as hard as it is to have our "babies" leave, I think it is great that our sailors are independent, and making good choices. I am a high school teacher, and it is difficult to see so many seniors without any kind of plan for their futures.
My son also said that there are brown recluse spiders in the "dorms" at Great Lakes! Eeew! Hope you all had a nice weekend :-)

Marion I love reading your comments, and everyone else's too! I miss my son too, and it is probably much easier for me, because I have three more at home. I have years until I get an empty nest, but I bet it sucks. My son is still in Great Lakes, and said he is going to try to come home for Thanksgiving. He said he gets that OR Christmas, but not both. I would love to plan another trip out there, but from California, air fare times four is expensive.
You are also right, doing back to school shopping w/o him was difficult.
Where DID the years go? I remember bringing him home from the hospital 18 years ago in these little yellow pajamas, and now he is in the Navy! I am proud of him, but I miss him!!! My husband died four years ago, and between working and having little ones (my twins were three when he died) thing really speeded up, just getting everyone fed and bathed, and homework and laundry and everything else done! Just like every other busy mom. I am a high school teacher, so I have this weekend off from work, which is a blessing. I want to try to find some picture frames and a blue candle to light for my baby. Thank YOU all for letting me ramble.....but mostly for letting me into your lives by reading your posts. I don't write much but I read them every single day and these messages warm my heart.

Oh Lynn, you get to do it all again? I hope your new group is as great as this one has been, but don't leave us!

Well, here I am again. Guess I am addicted to N4Ms. I like your profile photo Cheryl, have you always had that? It's not that late but I think I'm going to try to get some sleep. Umm,, maybe I'll check some other groups first....LOL Good night all,

I went ut tonight with a friend I've had since Jr High. I told all of my "sailor mom" stories." It was great! Mom of cjj, Timbosmom_dad you guys ROCK with the sailor tables. My aunt-in-law bought me a beautiful leather picture album with with Navy emblem embosed on it. It was such a surprise. I don't know her that well, but I guess it shows how much my boys Navy career means to me. I have 4 days off this weekend so that should be enough to put something together...LOL. Rachel, it has been HOT in CAL! We have the Delta breeze in Sacto so at least it cools down at night. Gotta go have pizza with hubby and stepson and watch a Netflix. Probably be on here later after they go to bed. (I know, I said I'd alrady had dinner, but it was small!) LOL again. Luv you ladies...
