Welcome txdylansmom. My son finished FMTB last year and stationed in Beaufort, SC. He is now on deployment with the Marines in Afghanistan. During FMTB, he was able to come home on most weekends since we live in Charleston. During FMTB, he lived in a "dorm" and it was sort of like being back in bootcamp with the daily drills and studying. Before Beaufort, he was stationed in Groton, CT in a clinic for two years. He says now he wishes he had done FMTB right out of A school since he was still used to the drilling of boot camp and studying. Personally, I was glad he waited so he could be a little older than such a young high school grad. Your son will have his cell phone, computer, etc. He can even have a car if he is bringing one. Be careful what packages you send - they make them open them in front of everyone. My daughter and son-in-law sent him pictures of their newborn son on a CD (80 pictures) and he had to do a push-up for each picture. He thought it was funny, we were furious. There is a nice graduation at the end of FMTB as well.
Tenn Navy Mom- yes, my son will be attending FMTB then orders are to head to Lemoore, CA...
I didn't think there was a Marine base there-- we will see.
Thank you! N4M was such a huge resource/encouragement for me when he was in BC. So, I am hoping you veteran Lejeune Mom's will give me the 411 on what to expect in the two months he will be there. :)
Welcome txdylansmom!
Hello- Just received official word that my sailor son will be headed to Camp Lejeune after A School Graduation in May.
On to the next chapter...
Here is a local link (here in NC) with names of Marines killed:
http://www.wral.com/marines-killed-in-training-were-young-lives-ahe...
Tamme, I heard a report that said they were delaying releasing the names for 24 hours to allow the families private time to grieve. This marinecorpstimes story has the family-released names of two of the Marines. A terrible day, so sad...
I have them all in my thoughts and prayers as well. Has anyone seen any names released? My son left CL in December with the Marine team he is with in Afghanistan. He was in Nevada in the fall for training.
My condolences to the marines and their families from camp lejeune killed in Nevada today. Thoughts and prayers are with them.
