Hi Jangee I am also from East Orlando, my son just left yesterday. I didn't get my call until 12:45 this morning. I couldn't sleep until I heard from him. Good Luck we are all here for each other.

Hi Linda! I live in East Orlando. My son Brandon is 19 and is headed to boot camp on Tuesday.  It's really starting to hit me today, but I know this is what he wants and I couldn't be prouder. Photos to come, need to purchase a new camera this weekend.

Hi Janquee! Welcome!  You are in the right place.  Where are you located?  Read the older posts and check the events to find out what is happening in our area.

Proudmom... I would love to see the photos. I feel for you today as you drive home.  BTW, I had to tear a part my son's room the day he left as we were doing a home renovation and were waiting until he left ... it was extra hard!!!!

I am headed up to Jacksonville in the morning to see my son before he flies out. He said he is leaving with some guys from  Cocoa and Deland. If anyone else has a son leaving from Jacksonville tomorrow and can't make it to Meps, I will be taking photos and posting them.

Hi everyone! I'm new to all this. My son is leaving for boot camp on Feb. 22. I would also like to connect with other local mothers to help out our sailors.

Well today we started talking about his room. In the next 2 days we will be going through it and getting rid of stuff he doesn't want. He said we should just get rid of all his clothes and he'll get new ones because they may not fit him after basic. In fact he thinks it would be nice to turn his room into a workout room  or small library...is he nuts,  it is HIS ROOM....my heart sank!!!

okay, get ready ... I was just fine until I got home from dropping him off at the Recruiter's Office to go to MEPS and then up to GL .... neither one of us slept worth a hoot the night before .... then I was in tears all day long .... an emotional wreck ... I really did not expect it. That's when I found this site, and it has been a God send.  We are here for each other.  A wonderful support group and you are wise to help out ... feels like we are "there" for them. ... and we are ... and it is very much appreciated!

Thanks for the info I will check out Molly's adopt a sailor and M*O*M*S. I want to help out any where that I can. Boy when my son enlisted I thought it was so far off before he would leave. I can't believe it is only a few days away now. This site is great I am finding out so much information and seeing that so many mothers have the same anxiety I am feeling....so I am normal LOL

Welcome Proudmom!  You are about to begin the adventure of a lifetime!  I didn't know when my son joined the Navy, that I joined as well ... but it is true, and now I am a full-fledged PROUD NAVY MOM!!!  There are many things you can learn on this site and  a lot of support here in many various groups.  As soon as your soon gets to Great Lakes and is assigned a Division, you will be able to meet other moms in that Division .... and so the relationships begin ...We have a small evolving group here in the Orlando area .... but there are many more NM's throughout Central FL ... There is a Packing Party hosted by Molly's Adopt A Sailor (check out the group) in Tampa (actually Largo) coming up on Feb. 18th ... check out the events page...  We have a small group of M*O*M*S (Mother's Offering Military Support) here in Orlando and we also have packing parties from time to time.  Just keep checking back and you'll be notified.  Congratulations to your son on  his decision to become a Sailor in the Greatest Navy in the World .... The United States Navy!
