OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Guidelines For Hosting A Meet & Greet

For member(s) hosting a meet and greet:
  1. Decide on Date, Time, Location (public or private) and Theme (if any)
  2. Add the meet and greet (m/g) to the Navy For Moms EVENTS calendar. From the Main page, click "Add an Event" and follow the instructions. On the Name of the Event, start with the Group Name (San Francisco Bay Area, Northern California Sacramento, Central Valley, etc.)
  3. After you added the event, use the comment section below to post a link to the event
  4. Get the word out. Post comments periodically on this site and on site of other groups letting everyone know about the event. You do have to keep posting notices, unfortunately.
  5. Contact local recruiter (if you want) to get promotional material - Patricia and Calimom got some great stuff - calendars, pens, stickers, key cord (thingy you put around your neck)
  6. Checkout brochure and name tags on N4M Events Meeting Kit (put mouse over EVENTS on menubar). Print out a flyer to take to the local recruiting office, if you want.
  7. Send out message to attendees with address and your phone. Under set up EVENT, you can send message to attendees, "maybes" or everyone. Do this 3-4 days prior to event.
  8. Make sure your phone is on in case someone gets lost.
SOME CONSIDERATIONS:
  1. Restaurant or private home?
Restaurant, coffee shop - no one should be stuck with paying the whole thing. Do dutch - you come, you eat, you pay. No very intimate, time of event may be cut short
and some may not come due to expense. It does not have to be elaborate.
Last year we had a big dinner at the Marines' Memorial Hotel in San
Francisco. We also had a more casual lunch at Rock Bottom Cafe in
    Campbell.
Private home - wonderful, warm friendly atmosphere but work for host(s). We have
fabulous cooks. Some of the meals have been just heavenly. I would
suggest POTLUCK to make things simpler.
  2. Food & Drinks.
Do whatever you feel comfortable with and as much or as little as you want to do. The key is for members to meet other Navy families in the area.
  3. Host or Hostess.
No experience required. You'll learn on the fly. Anything is OK. Have fun with it.
  4. Who can attend?
Anyone -  any family member, friend, potential sailor, recruiter
We will not have a master calendar. Everyone is welcome to set up an event anytime. We encourage everyone to participate. Just post a comment of the group's site and see how many
respond. Impromptu gatherings are fun too. Nine of us got together on a
short notice to have pizza, beer and to sign cards for packages going to
Marines for Molly's Adopt A Sailor Program. Be creative and
spontaneous.

Here are some idea for the future:
  • SUNDAY FOOTBALL - dads watch football - moms go to movie
  • SEW A PILLOW - we've got a group of ladies in Sac who are experts
  • GOLF
  • DAY AT THE MUSEUM
  • SF FLEET WEEK PICNIC
  • PACKAGING PARTIES
  • FUNDRAISERS (you pick a organization to sponsor)
I will be transitioning to a more passive role. I'll still be around, just not as much. I will be happy to answer questions if time permits. Besides, BHappy is very familiar with everything. Regards, BQBee
