Hello, my daughter is leaving for BC Jan 31.   Can she take an address book and writing pad with her when she leaves?  Or do I send that later?

Also, we're having a party for her and people are asking what she needs or what they can get her.  Any suggestions?

Thanks so much for the info I appreciate it greatly.  I'm overwhelmed right now and trying to get everything in order before she leaves.  There's so much great info out there I'm trying to sort through it all!

I have another question.  Friends are asking what type of gifts they can give to my daughter or what she needs before she leaves for BC.  Any suggestions?

Yeah I've seen pictures of the glasses.  Not very attractive is right!   I appreciate your well wishes!

Hi she95,

Since she can't take anything to boot camp, I'd have friends commit to sending her letters or cards of encouragement. Everything reeniegalla said is true.  The letters from home mean so much to the recruits when communication via cell, text and e-mail is cut off.  Be sure to join the Boot Camp Moms so you can connect with other moms from your daughter's division.  Sometimes recruits can't always call home when others do due to testing or appointments and that's a great way to get news about what's going on.  It's fun to meet up with the moms at graduation.  Good luck on this journey.  We're all here for you!

I love this!  Thanks so much!!

Hello she95. I think reeniegalla and susan have given you some good advice.

When my son went to boot camp. He took his wallet, with DL, Social Security Card, PHONE CARD (very important!) and $20 dollars. He also took an address book, Bible and 2 small family photos.

He was advised by his recruiter not to pack any extra clothes. My son arrived at boot camp with only the clothes on his back. When he got to boot camp, he had to pack the clothes and shoes he was wearing in a box to be sent home. This Box is affectionately called "The Kid Box."  Your Kid Box will arrive home a week or so after your daughter is in boot camp. When our son's box arrived from boot camp I felt a bit sad because he was not in it. LoL

You will also be getting a Form Letter from your daughter in the mail shortly after she arrives in boot camp. Keep this letter as it has a password to download a parking pass for PIR. It also contains a lot of other useful information.

I wish your daughter the best of luck.

Sandy:)

Before my son left, I'd read about putting some band aids in his wallet in case he got blisters.  I don't know if he used them but he has them.  I think the commitment of writing often is the best gift she could ask for; it seems to be a theme from every recruit  -  keep those letters coming.
Mail is a huge issue....I sent something everyday...even if it was a cartoon cut out of the paper with a quick note.

My son has been in for 3 1/2 years now.  One thing that was recommended to me while he was in BC was to send him a larger pre-addressed (to me) envelope with postage (I put $3) on it.  That way, he could send home the mail he had received.  They have VERY limited space.  We ended up doing this twice and it was great and that way he was able to keep the mail he received verses having to toss any of it to make more room.  Still have all of it along with his video of graduation and his books.

Good luck to your daughter!

Thanks to everyone for all the info!
