My son just started A school at Fort Sam Houston and hopefully will graduate on January 19th 2018. I would like to know if anyone has gone to the A school graduation, and if they did what to expect.
Thanks.

Congratulations on Basic graduation. Nothing can compare to that ceremony! I still get chills even 4 years later just thinking about it. A-School will be so much smaller. If he will be going to a C-School and you have to pick, the last one is probably more significant. I was only able to go to one and have no regrets.
By the last one my son was telling me not to come or spend the money. He just wanted out of the lines! :)
My sailor son graduated from A School at Fort Sam on 9/22 and my husband and I did attend. It was good to see our son for a couple days (he spent the night after graduation with us) and, though graduation ceremony was much smaller and shorter, in some ways we enjoyed it more. It was held at 3pm in a more intimate theater-like setting, their names and next schooling or assignment was announced as they walked across stage, and he was more relaxed and certainly not as tired. We are really glad we took the time to attend and he was really glad we were there.
Thank you for the information. Can you tell me if your son or if you had to call FT Sam Houston about attending the graduation? I would like to surprise him if possible.
If You have any numbers for the base can you please share them? Thank you.
Unfortunately, I don't have any phone numbers as all the info I received was from my son. He told me the date (which changed by one day) and time and place. We also saw him the evening before graduation for dinner and your sailor might like that as well. I think you'll have a difficult time surprising your sailor as he will have to get you a gate pass to get on base (he'll be your sponsor) and we had to give our sailor our drivers license numbers for background checks to get on base.
Thanks for the information I will let him know. His graduation is set up for January 19th looks like the navy like Fridays for graduation. i will book early december just to make sure all is going well. I was planning on spending a couple of days with him.
