My son called yesterday to tell me that he'll be leaving for Guam in October. He'll graduate from C school in September, so I'm just wondering if it's normal to receive an out of country deployment right off the bat. Someone please help, I'm a basket case wondering what's going on. I don't know if my son is telling me everything or if he's trying to protect me from worrying.

Hi Tina,
One of my sailors graduated January from San Antonio and has been in Italy since .

Thanks for the quick response, I'm happy that my sailor will get to see such a beautiful place, but I wasn't prepared for it to be so soon. Was it hard for you to see your sailor leave so quickly?

Tina, My son graduated last year and is also in Sicily

I guess I was expecting him to have a duty station here in the states before going overseas. Thank you for helping me feel better.
My son graduated from C school in April and went to Naples, Italy from there
It's so different from when my brother enlisted (27 yrs ago) so I just didn't expect him to be overseas right out the gate. Thanks for your response.

Tina,

My daughter left her A school and went to Sicily Soooo yes it does happen..

Hi - my son will be graduating from C school this coming Thursday (pharmacy tech) and is headed for Italy (Sigonella,Sicily) in September - I think he said he has to be there September 10.  He went in the Navy last August 3, finished basic training at Great Lakes, Illinois September 30 and from there went to Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio for Corpsman training where he's been ever since.  He's been talking about wanting to go overseas and chose Italy over Cuba or Japan.  After graduation he's coming home (we live in Rochester, NY) until he has to leave for Italy.  His dad and I are really excited for him but at the same time a little anxious - there are still so many unknowns.  We want to save our pennies to go over to visit him, hopefully sometime next year - he said he'd be stationed over there for 2 - 3 years.  Is your son also at Fort Sam?  I  wish him the best of luck, and you too - I can understand your anxiety but try not to worry too much.

Mine is in Sicily. Been there almost two years.

My daughter just got orders today and she is going to Guam too!  Tina, what have you heard from you son?  Is he there yet? Just wondering how it is!  Seems real far but she is happy so that is all that matters!

Dear Galls, you all scarred me!!!!  Are you serious, right after A or even C school they send them overseas????  I hope wives could follow with their HM, Sailors???  Does anyone know anything about it?   Thank you all!!!  Take care, In Solidarity, marika.

Oh my I am a mom and he is graduating C school June 12th I am scared but excited for him :(
