For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

My son will go to Bootcamp in September and has already chose to do Hospital Corpsman. Im guessing this is the page I should chat with others on.... How is it? Any info I should know about it?

Hello!
My son graduated from Boot Camp and then Corpsman school in Great Lakes, Chicago last July. He is now working at the clinic in Quantico, Virginia.
I would be most happy to help you in any way I can with information or if you just need a shoulder. There will be difficult times for you but I believe that if you know more about what to expect, it does make it a bit easier. One word of advice though......be careful what and whom you listen to. I got a lot of confusing advice and opinions that were not correct.

Is it a Navy Clinic? What does he do? Dont they have a school for that in TX?

My son works on the Marine base at Quantico and basically does the duties of a nurse. The Marines use Navy Corpsmen.
If I can remember correctly, I think there was talk of moving the Corpsman training to Texas when he was in boot camp so you may be correct.
Depending on how well they do in A School, they have choices where they can go to perform their duties.

MaryI59 my son is currently in A School. He Wants to go "green " side, I think he called it. How exactly does it work when they are done with A school, do they go thru some kind of training with the marines?? forgive my ignorance.

Celina..........I think it is different for each person. There was soooo much "talk" on here back at that time. You really have to be careful because everything said on here is not necessarily true and you will learn (if you haven't already) that it can change in an instant. So I can tell you what went on with my son and some others but it may not always be true for everyone.
A lot depends on how well your son does in A school. The top student got first pick from what was available at that time and then they go down the list from there. My son was about 20th out of I believe a class of 60. I think that there may also be opportunity to continue in schooling, such as C school, to become specialized rather than basic Corpsman. But this is still with the Navy. There was no additional training with the Marine Corp. but since the Marines use Navy Corpsmen, many of them do work on Marine bases or with the Marines abroad, and some on ships. Hope this helps.

welcome aboard!!! we may also want to check out the Facebook page of us navy recruit, it an excellent source of information and support for boot camp, I wished I had known about it sooner. also check out in this site the PIR discussion, lots of information for Boot camp gratuation. My seaman is currently in A school getting his corpsman education. tell your son to brush up on his anatomy terminology etc. good luck.
