Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

I'm a rising senior in high school who is really interested in joining the navy as a CTI.  I've just started to talk to my recruiter and have been looking around the internet as well for more information. This site seems to be the most accurate and detailed, so I joined (sorry, I'm not a mom :) ) I have a lot of questions pertaining to CTIs, here goes:

1) When do you find out your language, before during or after boot camp?

2) How long do ea. of the phases at the DLI take?

3) Do single sailors always live at the DLI, or do they have to rent?

4) It seems like the Asian languages go to Hawaii and the middle eastern ones go to Georgia, is that always true?

4b) How many years are spent at those duty stations? Is it permanent?

5) Do most sailors deploy? (I know that they don't usually deploy as part of the ships company, but do they deploy otherwise?)

5b) If so, how many times on average/what are your child's experiences?

6) When at the duty stations, must sailors live on base?

7) How do promotions work? How often etc.

8) How are languages chosen? The recruiter says you choose, but everywhere else says you don't. If I were to score highly on the DLAB, how much of a chance would I have at getting either Mandarin/Arabic?

9) Do certain languages deploy more often?

Sorry for all the questions!

Jack,

My son, is coming home in June, after 6 years as a CTI. If you "friend me" on facebook, I would be more than happy, to tell you all I know.

Jack...please, email me. I lost your friend request somehow!  kcource@gmail.com

sorry.

Karen, I would greatly appreciate any info you could send via facebook, my son just took his dlab last week and takes his physical on Tuesday.  He scored well on the dlab, a 122.  I will look for you on FB and see if we can communicate that way.  Thanks!
