My son will be heading to CTI in Monterrey on April 28, 2012. I feel like the luckiest person since I only live just over an hour from his school. BUT, there are lots of things I dont know about and of course, you dont know...what you dont know...So please feel free to share any information with me that you think will be good for me to know. I dont need the obvious like, where to eat, etc. But more in-depth information would be appreciated.
thanks!

Hi and Welcome! I'd recommend going through all the discussions here if you haven't already and reading up. A lot of great information or links have been posted. Then come back with your questions and I'm sure people will do their best to answer them for you.
That is great that you are a local and will have access to your sailor, when his isn't studying, that is! ;-) Monterey is awesome and we really enjoyed visiting our son three times during his 18 or so months there.
Congrats on your soon to be sailor!! Best of luck to him during BattleStations!!!
Thanks for the info. I read everything, just curious as if there is more to know. His PIR is next friday...so exciting.
You're welcome! The only real thing to know and realize is that this is a top secret rating and there will be a lot of things your CTI can't share with you. It's also best to not mention which language he is assigned on the public forum. Ask more sensitive questions via PM if any come up.
DLI is a college with military standards and regulations. A very fast paced college!
My son will be going there on May 12. And since I am currently living in England, will be a while til I see him. From what I've read, where he goes after he finishes school depends on the language he learns. Mine is apparently going to Fort Gordon in Georgia. Best of luck to you and your son! :)
Thank you and same to you. Its hard to be away from them!!
Hi Mel,
My son was at DLI and I live in Sacramento, so I was able to see him once a month or so. The best advise I can give you is to be so supportive.
They can get discouraged and frustrated, it is alot to learn in a small amount of time, with lots of studying. I just listened to him vent and assured him he could accompluish anything he wanted to, and he did! He has made lifelong friends with the sailors he went through it with and is really glad he did it now, but it was tough.
You can private message me anytime and I would be more than happy to share our experiences with you.
Trinka
