My girlfriend left for BC on May 1st. I still haven't gotten her form letter yet so PIR date is still a toss up. After PIR I'm planning on driving our car to Monterey where we will get married. How does A school work? Will she have the weekends to spend time with me? How soon can we get married and once we do, will we start getting a housing allowance shortly after so she doesn't have to live on base? How should I expect this to play out after PIR If we're planning on getting married once we get to Monterey?

Wow - congratulations.  Once you find out the PIR date look for a N4M link for that PIR date as you will get invaluable information.  CTI is tough and expect a lot of homework.  When my son was there I didn't know of anyone that was married (and if they were) if they were allowed to live off base.  A school is very strict and they have a lot of NAVY they want to instill into them with room checks, watch hours and other duties. I had a friend that got engaged just before going to boot camp and they didn't talk about living together in Monterrey - I don't know if it was because it wasn't allowed or what, but I know cost was a part of it. Maybe you can talk to her recruiter.  Also - there is a CTI link on N4M site as well.  Those are for sailors already there - they might know - good luck.

Thanks. I have a friend who has been through this process, although he has always been single. He said that once boot camp is over and a school begins things will start to go back to normal a little more. Her recruiters didn't know much about how it would play out after boot camp but they told her she needed to stress to her commanders that she needed leave if possible and that she was planning on getting married. Hopefully, they'll be understanding. Either way, I'm determined to move to Cali with her, even if it means living with her aunt 7 hours away for a bit.

Hopefully it all works out and you two get some time together.  Some times it depends on when the A school actually starts - she may have some time available/maybe not.  I hope so.  It helps that she has family in the area.  If you learn anything in the Navy it is hurry up and then wait.  You'll learn how much patience you have.  Best of luck.

Thank you :) The positivity really helps. I'm at that point of boot camp where I know nothing so my mind keeps going to the worst possible scenario, so any positive reinforcement is so helpful. I know that we can make this work if we want it to. When she told me that I'd probably have to drive to Cali by myself I didn't want to but now I'm so ready and I'll drive as long as it takes :)

You'll love Monterrey it is beautiful there and worth the drive.  My son went to CTI and we visited him once.  In order for him to have his weekend open (as this is when he usually did homework - along with every night) he had to do extra homework during the week - but we had a great time and I know he enjoyed sleeping in a real bed.

Also, have you logged into any of the other sites that help with info about Boot Camp.  I found them very helpful.
