OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Questions from a the mom of a CTI DEP
Hello everybody:
I have lots of questions since this is all new to me. But a couple to start with. My DEP (daughter) just signed her contract for CTI and has a ship date of 6/18/14. How do they determine whether she goes to FL or CA? When will this be decided? She is hearing that they can take the CTI away from her yet for various reasons. Anybody have any input on that? Thanks for your help!

Unless I am mistaken, all CTI training is in CA at the Defense Language Institute (DLI). Other CT rates train in FL, but not CTI. In order to qualify for CTI she has to pass her background check and be approved for Top Secret Clearance (along with all the general qualifications for navy enlistment).

Correct! All CTIs go to the Defense Language Institute (DLI) in Monterey, CA for their A-School after finishing boot camp.
As for taking away her spot as a CTI, the only situations I can think of where this would be possible are:
1) If she is deemed unable to have a TS/SCI clearance.
2) If she doesn't get a good enough score on the DLAB (although I assume she already took this, since she signed a contract as a CTI).
3) If she doesn't do well enough in her language while at DLI.She could go to Florida later in her career for aircrew training, but that's a ways down the road.

Hi and Welcome! CTI's go to Monterey for language school. After attending and graduating from DLI in Monterey, they will ship out to their language's base: i.e. Asian languages go to Hawaii, Spanish to TX, etc. Your recruit will still need to pass all of her tests and PT as well as pass all security checks at Great Lakes. If it all goes well, she will graduate boot camp and ship out to CA.

My daughter has been accepted into CTI as well and she leaves for boot camp in early July. We are reeling with the immediacy of her enlistment. So I plan on coming back here often for support. I only found out yesterday that she is committed for all those years.

Hi Orpy and welcome! I believe the length of the commitment is so long due to the amount of training involved. Based on some of what I have read it looks like almost half of their enlistment time is spent on training! Since my daughter leaves a few weeks/month before yours hopefully I can give you updates on what to expect! This is my first go round with military life but my husband and I really feel like it is the perfect fit for our daughter. She is definitely pumped and ready to go! Where are you from? And I hear Monterey is beautiful so I'm really hoping to be able to get out there and visit when they go to A school.

Hi mygirlsrock...
I am from central Mass...just north of Springfield. I would love updates. I am gradually getting used to the idea of her leaving but it's the rather sudden decision on her part that confused me. Perhaps it had been brewing inside of her for a while and she did not discuss it. I also hear that Monterey is gorgeous and plan on visiting as much as she allows. I do think I will need some emotional support after she leaves in early July. Her personality is there all over my home and I am already feeling sad just looking at her things. I know this is a real life event for me...kids are are leaving; it's all good but I still will have to adjust.

I can understand all of that Orpy. When I stop and think much about her leaving I could go to tears pretty easily, but mostly I'm happy for her. I guess we just have to focus on the positive. They are in good hands, they will have a good career, it will make them stronger and they will definitely be a benefit for our country. We did good!

I understand this too Orpy, with every day now, I'm thinking, "I have only four months left to do ....with my daughter." It makes everything more special, even little things. Every time she asks if I want to watch a movie I always say yes, no matter what time of day (or night!) or what kind of movie it is, I won't be able to get that time back, and I have to take it now. We had a dinner out the other night, it wasn't anything big but meaningful to me.

Hi all, my daughter just signed too, rated for CTI, she's very excited, she ships 7/28. We've been reading about bc and DLI, getting used to the idea of her doing this. I'm so very proud, she's coming from a big military family.

I'm from Washington and my daughter is my oldest, I have a son who's a junior, just two kids. That's enough, lol. we've always said don't have more kids than adults, you'd be outnumbered, I don't know how my parents did it, I came from a family of four. :)
