Thanks, Smom!  Guess we'll just go "wing it"!

When we re there we just called and had our sailor meet us at the gate closest to his building. They won't let you on base unless your sailor is with you. At least that was our experience.

Good Afternoon, All.  We have a sailor (newbie), arrived at DLI Feb 11 from Great Lakes.  Since home is in Fremont, CA., we are looking to take a drive down to Monterey on Sunday to see if we can visit (and take him his computer).  Does anybody out there have any information on how we gain access?

Hi everyone!  I appreciate your responses to my previous question.. I didn't mean to send everyone a message.  Conor was able to change his rate to CTI..  We are all very excited.

Oh, and as far as loving California goes..... my son's class gets a mid-year break in May. He isn't coming home (to Maryland).  He said he loves California and is gonna take that time to go hiking in the mountains and/or travel the rest of the state. I'm sad but it is what it is. He's always been extremely independent and I had to let him go back in April 2010.

So, my son has been there over 8 months.... He has had a roomate for several months (although he is graduating any day now).... anyway, he also has a 3rd bed. Last week they were given the opportunity to pick their own roomates, so now one of his closest friends is rooming with him. Its nice for him b/c I know it must be so wierd to share a bunk bed with a complete stranger!!!  hahhahaha. Although he has done it in college and in boot camp, it surely can't be fun!

Sometimes there's a wait until they get enough recruits in a certain language to start classes. It depends. Having some down time is a relief after all they've been through in basic. Enjoy PIR-it's so exciting!

My daughter will be joining all the other newbies this Saturday.  She graduates Friday- we can hardly stand the wait.  Any idea on how long before they "class up"?

my daughter just arrived in Monterey as well.  She is in awe of how beautiful this town is and how nice everyone has been to all the newbies.
