Thanks for the warm welcome!  His classes don't start until the end of next month, so he thinks he'll have lots of down time.  So far he's lovin life in Monterrey!  It's gorgeous!  Of course, this is only day 1...we'll see what fun things are in store while he's in Phase 1!

Congratulations on your son's graduation and arrival to Monterey! When do his classes start? He will find that his life is a lot different and I think easier than basic. There's a lot of deer around the base and he will be able to hear the seals on the beach!

Hi everyone!  My Sailor arrived in Monterrey yesterday to begin his A school!  Glad to finally be aboard!  Congratulations to all the new CTI family members who celebrated Feb 10 PIR!

I think all flights are on American Airlines.

Comment by jlvk on February 7, 2012 at 11:09pm

I'm not sure the actual airline - I just thought since O'Hare is United's hub that the flight would probably be on United.  Also I never thought they would go to LAX & then head to Monterey.  I just assumed the direct flight to SFO.  We probably won't even know till PIR.  Frustrating when trying to plan for our return trip!

In October, my son's flight left O'Hare at 1:45 and he flew through LAX.  There were 8 or so CTI'ers on the same flight.  There was a flight with another 7 or so that left an hour or two later also through LAX.

My sailor will be flying out of Great Lakes to Monterey via San Fran.  Does anyone know when or around what time they have the flights leave O'Hare?  They seem to leave every hour starting around 7am.

lisa - Russian guys are Group 4 now, they use to be Group 6, that's where the confusion come it.

Here is an attachement:

To see the actual Navy release just Google "CTI Competitive Groups Established!"  (I'm not sure how to link the document since it has a huge URL)

This might help too...

So where does Russian fit into those four groups-Eastern Europe?

Comment by Craig on February 6, 2012 at 2:05am

Dee or others - I'm just trying to keep up-to-date on the CTI rating.

I know you won't have a clue what I'm about to say, but your sailors will. Originally the Navy had a bunch of NEC codes for the CTI languages: They are based on the “Big 6”/Tier 1 languages (Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Persian, Russian, and Spanish), with all other languages (about 20) strategically aligned to one specific Tier 1 language.

Now they are saying they compress the Big 6 to only 4 groups:

Group 1:  9320 Middle East & North Africa

Group 2:  9321 East & Far East Asia

Group 3:  9322 Latin & South American

Group 4:  9323 Eastern Europe

My question is this true?  It was originally approved in 2007 for E8 & E9's only, but now the rumor is they are doing this for all CTI's.  Do tell....
