Lisab4- thanks! i will!!  Yes, everyone in the Navy over there had to watch it. hahahhaa. I am sooo loving my visit with my son. This is my first time really being with him since he left for boot camp 8 months ago. I think when he leaves this time I will do much better. I know that he is very happy in California.

During boot camp I watched these videos over and over looking for clues about my son's daily life in Great Lakes.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdHt56NdERo&feature=related

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYREP-35Ylk&feature=related

And finally, BattleStations 21, basically the final test. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jibm7kyIGcM&feature=related After your child passes, you get your "I'm a Sailor call." I got my call almost two years ago, and this still brings tears to my eyes.

The videos in these links were so important for me because I could visualize just where my son was standing when he made his phone calls home (we got an 800 number for him to call home with, by the way; worked great), what his bunk looked like, his cubby for his possessions, the hallways he was walking, etc. etc. It comforted me to know where he was.

Then, when he got to Monterey, I put this link in my bookmark bar, and most days I would look at the streaming video of the ocean, right off the Naval Post-Graduate School grounds, which is just a couple of miles from the Presidio of Monterey  and DLI.

Now, I've got a link to a webcam in Hawaii. . .

I felt the same way as you when I had to say goodbye to my son. You just feel so  lost-and the lack of contact during basic is tough! You have to be proud of the decision to do something difficult and different.  It's OK to cry and miss him. Us Navymoms will always be there for you!
