I asked my son about who he hangs around with- is it people he was at boot camp with? People he originally lived with? But he said it's basically the people he is in class with. I guess when you are in class 40 hours a week with homework all night and on weekends it makes it hard to get around and meet people. My son was in a DLI talent show a few weeks ago - that sounded like fun. Now he is working with a group of people to make a video about the Navy. It's a contest on base, not just DLI. He has a good movie making program on his Apple laptop so I hope he wins. He won't tell me anything about it though - just that it is Navy related.  And no, he did not win the talent show either. hahaha. He said they did 'gangsta rap'. Oh boy!

Aww, KC, I'll listen any time you want to babble about your boy.  But only if you promise to listen to me babble about mine, too.  That is a cruel joke the Navy plays on us at BC graduation now, isn't it.  You get to see them for a few hours, and then they're whisked away to the plane.  Yay that he's coming home for Christmas.  I'm happy for you.  Mine will be home, too.  He can only stay nine short days.  But it will still be great.

Awesome picture.  Thanks for sharing.  If there's anyway we can think of to get the good kids connected, let's do it.  My son loves it there.  But, like I said, is bummed about the lack of non-alcoholic social activities.  He's talking about going to San Fran alone.  EEEEKS!!  That scares the crap out of me.

I posted a pict. of my boy drinking beans right outa the can. No bowls or spoons on their adventure to Big Sur. Also no chairs apparently. Just coolers.  I could not beleive he has bangs in this picture!!  hahahaaa. Bangs! Didn't know that was allowed. I have only seen him 9 hours in the past 8 months. Only 10 more days and I get to see him. Sorry for going on and on. I just miss him so much. And this pict. is all I have of him lately.

Yeah, my son is too young for bars and isn't a drinker anyway. He just goes to Big Sur whenever he has free time. He even bought a new digital camera.  He's always been into nature and animals. He was a peace loving VEGAN prior to shipping off for boot camp. He felt horrible eating meat before leaving but he knew he had to do it. hahahahaaa. He really loves it there. He loves the seals and being so close to the Pacific Ocean. We live right by the Altantic ocean but apparently he prefers California's side of the world.

Well if they need an additional non drinking sight seeing loving guy to include, they should find my son as well.  I think two Sailors from his Training Group that we know about also went there!  If there is a way to connect offline, I'd be happy to give you his name!

Gosh, KC.  It sounds like I need to get my son to find your son.  Mine is having a hard time finding people that want to do something other than drink.  He's interested in sight-seeing, but can't find other interested in the same thing.  He's not into the bar/drinking scene at all.

My son cleaned dust bunnies and toilets and had watch duty. He also took a compact college course. It was a special mini-semester just for the guys at DLI waiting for their language to begin. He wasn't too happy when he first got there but now he has friends and in his very minimal spare time gets to have fun. A group of them went camping at Big Sur Mtn this past weekend.
