The KC app is just a free countdown application I loaded on my smart phone. I named it the KC countdown. (I call my son KC on here). My son bought his ticket home ready! West coast to east coast... $500 on Travelocity

What is a KC app?  Thank you so much for all the info - I'm looking forward to learning more and being an active CTI mom - whatever that will mean LOL

The KC app sounds great! Our son will get to come home for the holidays, but a daughter of a Navy mom friend had her leave home cancelled for Christmas.Let's keep our fingers crossed! Our son said that he can hear the seals in the morning in Monterrey-how cool is that?

Me too! I have a countdown to KC app loaded on my cell phone home screen that tells me the exact number of days hours minutes and seconds until I see my boy! I've only seen him 9 hrs since he left for boot camp 7 months ago. I start to cry every time I think about him coming home.

It stands for Defense Language Institute.  That is the school your son will attend.  It is a school (run by the Army) where all the branches go to train for languages.

Thank you Lisa - I saw that but I didn't know what DLI was LOL

Debi, there is a link just above that's title "Helpful DLI link for newbies."  It will give you some basic information.  Also, do a internet search for DLI.  I found a really interested CNN clip on the school and what they do and how they train.  I didn't save the link.  So, sorry, I can't pass it on to you.

My son was an AC but is color blind so they reclassified him to a CTI - he graduates on 12/2 and then heads off to Monterey!  We are in So. Cal so of course I couldn't be happier :)

My daughter starts her language this week also after a change, my hubby also was a nuke submariner twenty odd years ago, is it ok to say what subs he was on?
