They arrived around 9 pm pacific on Sunday. My son's FB status said the food is great and he didn't get yelled at once so far. So all in all, he loves it there. :)

I'm sure they found the volunteers at the USO to be very kind--probably the first real tender words since they shipped out from MEPS.

And my son was in a group of 3 and all had identical itineraries. Maybe it is as simple as multiple people working on travel arrangements. Who knows?

My son did tell me a group left earlier. I had forgotten about that. I'm glad your sailor made it. I wonder why they split them up like that. He was in good spirits. I guess a uso van is going to take them to the beach while they wait for their flight.

Lisa, those poor sailors! After getting up at 2:30 Saturday morning they were already exhausted. My son was on an earlier flight with 7 others that did make it in to Monterey. When I talked to him last night he told me about your son's group. He felt really, really bad for them.

The group that just PIR'd got stuck in LA last night due to fog. Poor things had to sleep in chairs at the USO. My son said it was still more comfortable than his rack at RTC though.

My son called last night & we talked for over any hour and had no problem with his Sprint phone.  He did say he can't access his Yahoo e-mail account on the school computers. He can access Facebook though.

My son has no problem texting, phoning or e-mailing from his I-phone from his room. We have him on our AT&T plan.

Thanks, Karen.  I'd rather him not have to start a new contract.  He may think he's making a lot of money, but we all know just how little money they are actually making in the beginning.  An expensive cell phone contract is the last thing he needs.  Thank goodness he has no interest in getting a car.  So I've already dodged that bullet so far.
