You can give them civilian clothes in the "backpack" but you will find that you don't have much room for them. I was given advice that the boys wanna wear BOXERS instead of the govt issued briefs. So, I packed him 2 tshirts, 2 pairs of boxers and then the laptop, cellphone etc.  He couldn't wear the civilian clothes for 1 (or 2?) weeks anyway, so I shipped him his jeans and socks. He bought a pair of tennis shoes when he went out shopping for the 1st time.

My son has been there for 5 weeks now!!!!!

All you gals with October 21 PIRs, do you belong to Recruit Training Command's Facebook page?  If not, you should check it out.  Tons of good information.  Also, in the discussion section there are discussion specifically for your child's division.  To find it, just search for U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command.

Lisa, I would love to connect at PIR.  It will be also nice to have some moms to talk to while our kiddos are attending the DLI in Monterrey.

Greenoak, I am told they can have a limited amount of civilian clothes but not too many.  They can't wear them outside of their rooms until they phase up.  I think they have to pack them in the backpack.  Can someone confirm this just in case I have it wrong?

Excellent!  We should make sure we at least say "hi" at PIR if there's time.  I'll be going to the meet and greet on the 20th.  Would love to see you gals there.

Tammy, my son is in 12/353.  Does that mean you guys have a October 21 PIR, too?

My parents got him the Kindle and i got him the gift card for Amazon.  My son graduated on his birthday so it was really cool. I gave him his lap top, cell phone at the airport in "the black back pack" and I thought he was set. Little did I know he would be in need of a digital camera. I had no idea Calif. was so beautiful.  No one else got him any graduation gifts b/c he said he really couldn't have anything there.

Lisa, my son is at RTC right now too.  He is in 11/350.  What ship/div is your son in?
