My son had to go to a Captains Mast too, about a week or so ago. I guess they make everyone attend one???  He watched a man get punished for cheating. He was an E5- this was his second time attending DLI. Was there to learn his 2nd language. Boy, what negagive posts we have going on here!!

On a brighter note, my son texted me and told me that he is in someone's house in San Fran- and that this is the FIRST time he has been in an actual HOME since he left for bootcamp April 19th.

Well, I hope one scumbag doesn't ruin it for all the responsible people!

Monica- my son told me those exact same stories about the guy peeing of the quarterdeck and the other one getting DUI. Was that recently? He just told me about it when he got to phase 3 the other day.  Last night he drove to San Francisco with some friends from DLI. I'm not sure why, b/c he has to 'work' Saturday. But, he said he has off Friday and Monday, so good for him.

Glad to hear the 'scumbag' is going to pay for his actions. If I was in charge, I'd give him an immediate discharge. I hope that's at least what he gets. I'd also discharge the guy w/ the DUI. But, I can only dream of being president!!  haahahaa

I wonder how much the phases apply to married men.  I understand they still can't go off base but what if they live on base in a home with their family?? Does anyone have experience with this??

Tammy:  Yes they fly out the very next day after graduation.  You will be able to spend the day of graduation with them until around 7:30 p.m.  We did not give them their phone or any other electronics because they can't take it back on base with them after you drop them off.  However if you are able to coordinate his flight out you can go to the airport and meet him there and give him his electronics. They are only allowed to us their sea bag and a black back pack that they will purchase before they leave.  As for clothing etc, they will be given an address where to send these items.  I used USPS and used the priority boxes and packed up their things in them a little at a time and sent them after I got their address.  I did insure them.  It got to them in 2 days and cost about $17 p/box.  Their is a PX on base where they can purchase any food and toiletry items.  Once they get to the different phases they will be allowed to go out and see beautiful California.  Good Luck

KC's Mom:  I am in Maryland on the Eastern Shore.  My SA started school today.  They had alot of free time on their hands.  They have been there since July 2nd.  They are anxious for school to start.  They did get to come home for 6 days in August which was great.  I was told they get to come for Christmas if they have enough leave because the school shuts down at that time.  They miss home and love California but they hope that they get to be stationed somewhere on the East Coast eventually.  I am hoping the same thing.  One of their friends at DLI received a laptop and an IPOD 4G from the Navy for schooling.  Not sure if all of them receive that or just that particular language.

They told me that there have been quite a few incidents there with SA's getting into trouble.  They said that the phases were going to change for new comers.  Meaning the length of each phase will be longer now, they will not be able to get into phase 3 as quickly as that is when they are allowed liberty from Friday at 4:00 p.m til Monday morning at 6:45 a.m. that is when people were getting in trouble.  Good luck.  If anyone has any different information then what I have said please feel free to correct me. I am new at this.

I got my 1st letter(s) yesterday from BC.  My son had written 2 letters on 2 different occasions and sent them in the same envelope.  I did get a phone call from him late last week to get contact info for his clearances.  He will graduate on 10/7 and says he will be Grad and Go to Monterrey.  From what I hear I take it that it will probably mean he may have the afternoon after graduation with us and will most likely fly out the next morning.  I have a few questions for you experienced moms:

Will he be able to take any electronics from home with him?  Should I bring his cell phone, computer and/or Kindle to Chicago with me??

Is there any things he will need to take to California with him?? Any Civilian clothing, personal items, etc?

Will he be able to take a suitcase or carry-on bag with him besides what he has been issued at boot camp?

Any info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks,

Tammy

Just got a letter today!! Found out his language! So excited!! It was what we were hoping for!!!! :) Just nervous now about how long it might take for me and the kids to get out to Monterey and be with him.

MaddenMaiden, it sounds like we are in the same phase.  My husband is at boot right now. In his letter, he said he should have found out last week what language but I haven't heard from him yet to know which one.  His PIR date is 9/23. What about yours???

My son told me that he has no desire to ever live in Maryland, OR the east coast again, now that he has experienced Monterey. He spent last Sunday visiting Big Sur. Unfortunately for him, ...... he's only there for a year & heading right back to the east coast!
