Dee- you mentioned your son will be going out on a submarine??? My son is to go to Georgia for 3 years after Monterey. Do the sub or ship duties come after the 3 years? (dear God, please say yes). Or do they go out during the 3 year term at Georgia?
In case no one remembers me, my son would have been in Monterey already, but broke is foot in boot camp - he is back in a new division now and graduates in a few days. Interesting fact- his new RDC is a CTI!!! I wonder what made him decide to become an RDC.

This is our last night in Monterey.  We attended our son's graduation yesterday from DLI and I couldn't be prouder of him if I tried.  I can also tell that he is proud of himself too for all that he has accomplished in the short 18 months he's been here.  We met several of his friends and it was impressive to hear them speaking in such a foreign language with very little effort. This has been a great learning experience for him, but the learning is far from over.

Not looking forward to heading back to 100+ degree weather on the east coast.  The average while we were here has been around 68!  Beautiful place.

NYRican---No, not the same guy. I believe my son was a RPOC in division 934 and worked as ship staff for sentry duty, and was head of ship staff at one point, but was not the RPOC sailor introduced at the graduation. He will be getting a new roommate soon, as his current one is to leave soon to live in married housing. And, yes, my son is also so pumped to be where he is!

@ olivezick, was ur son the RPOC for his Division? My son said that his RPOC at GL is his roommate, from Louisiana. Just wondering. He says his roomy is cool and he is already telling me that he will take leave as soon as possible to come get his car. He is just loving the Navy but most of all being as far away from GL as possible :)

My son's PIR is 8/12 and I was wondering if I should bring his laptop to him.  Does anyone know if he can bring it to DLI or does he need to phase up first?

Cannonpark - the amount of info on this site is amazing, left by previous folks. hotels, restaurants, what to do where to go, etc. On a good note - we were able to book a flight to Monterey at a reasonable price.
