For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

I've only been on this site for a short while, but I guess I can say that, right?)--my son also PIR'd on July 8--his classes start on Aug. 18th. And, yes, Dee, you are so right--DLI is like heaven to him after being out of RTC for a week! And, hello, Willsmom!

Thanks for all the info on the gate passes, Dee, Janet R., and Debbie in MD! Got to talk to my son last night--for over a half hour! Anyway, he said he is closer to Bolio gate, I think. Those phone calls are so precious, aren't they? He usually calls my cell--I put it on "speaker phone" so my husband and I can both hear at the same time. I bet we would look hilarious to an observer--they would see two parents sitting side-by-side on a couch, hunched as close as they can get on either side of a cell phone, eagerly soaking in the sound of their son's voice, his excitement and wonder of his new life, exchanging silent smiles of pride, happiness, relief, you name it, over the cell phone at each other, as their son continues talking. He has so much to tell (well, not everything, only what he's allowed to, of course!), we have to actually ask him to stop talking for a moment when one of us wants to ask a question, or make a comment! Oh, he sounds so good--I am so happy for him! Maybe after time passes, we will handle his phone calls more nonchalantly, but it's only been a week since he's been out of boot camp--we are making up for the 2 months of no contact, I guess!

Do all of them ship out the very next day? He had to leave early the next morning from RTC so we didn't get to see much of him.

Comment by NYRican924 on July 15, 2011 at 10:55pm: Hi all. My son PIR'd on July 8 and reported to DLI on July 9. I've talked to him a couple of times and eerytime he just sounds so excited with everything that is going on up there. Today he called all happy saying that since his class doesn't start until late September that Navy offered him to take college courses this summer, which I hear is a rare occurence for them to be allowed to take course college courses when they haven't even started language class. He was so exxcited and I was so happy for him and this opportunity if it actually pans out. It just couldn't have worked out any better and I am sooo happy that he is happy and excited. I really hope he continues to enjoy DLI, especially when he starts classes and realizes that it's not a walk in the park! hmmm. Anyway, glad to be in this group now.

Janet R.--Zach arrived 4 days ago on the 9th to DLI. I will be visiting him the

weekend of July 29th, leaving on Aug. 1st. Can't wait!

And if the answer is yes, do you have any idea where/who I would start with to get a base pass? Thanks!

Comment by Terry on July 12, 2011 at 7:11am: We are headed to Monterey for graduation a week from Thursday but so far have no details from my sailor. I'm a little frustrated that we have none except the date and it is now 9 days away. Anybody else going that has some information they can share?
