MaddenMaiden, I am a just a mom now, but I was a Navy wife for ten years.  We were also married when my hubby left for boot camp.  They will help him with all that stuff while his is in recruit training (ie getting the move set up).  If you have no children and a smaller household, a DIY move is so much easier in the beginning. When we were going up to Nuke school for my husband, he was allowed a week house-hunting leave.  So we had plenty of time to find a place before he started school.  In all of our moves, we never had less than a week. Now, keep in mind, every situation is very different with the Navy as far as allowed leave and such.  But I can promise you that they have moving families around down to a science.  You will be taken care of, I promise.  Ten years of moving and we never had one bit of problems.  Just be prepared for the fact that you can virtually NOTHING to help the process along.  All of that responsibility, unfortunately, rests on the shoulders of the sailor.  He will have lots of answers for you when the time is right.

Hi all! I'm a CTI wife and I've been trying to read all of the old posts but I'm not sure if this was already discussed. My husband leaves for basic at the end of July but I was wondering does anyone know how I will get to Monterey? His recruiters are great but none of them are married so they don't have alot of experience with this. The best they tell me is "it depends". I'm getting kind of nervous that I will have to pay to haul and drive our stuff there from east Texas! I thought they do the moving for you. Also where will we live? Do they just assign it or does he need to find a place before I get there? Sorry I have so many questions! I love this site! I know things about CTI and the Navy before my husband half the time! Thanks for all the advice y'all give!

Hi, I have been checking out this forum for the past couple of weeks wanting to get more information before my son heads to boot camp in late August and then Monterey afterwards. It has been very helpful so far!

KC'smom: Your poor son!  I know of an army boot camper that broke her ankle on an obstacle course and they sent her home to recover.

My son is beig held up at boot camp now for  an extra 8-10 weeks with a fractured ankle.  He's devestated. He was supposed to graduate in 16 days and be in Monterey in 17 days. Anyone else have this happen to their son/daughter?

Ok, thanks. He does well with homework. He's always been a bit of a nerd! hahaha. He was an English major in college - always got A's in all classes except one.... Linguistics. Which really suprised me because he loved the class!  I thought it would be so easy for him. Still can't understand why the one "C" he got was in Linguistics. I hope he does well.

I have a question, too.    My son is at boot camp and injured his foot.  While being seen by the doctor I suppose the doc was making small talk.  My son told him what he would be going to A school for  (going to DLI to learn one of the harder languages) and the doctor told him "oh, a lot of people fail out of that, you know".  what in the world??  Anyone know how much truth is in that?

I guess I actually meant ATF, not AFT.  My mistake.  This CTI stuff is all new to me, since my hubby was a nuke.

I'm just curious.  When my son's detailer at MEPS gave him his rating designation, he gave him AFT-CTI.  When his recruiter found out he was designated AFT, he was excited.  But.....my son, being a typical teenager, didn't ask him what the AFT actually means for him in his training.  I've looked it up and have found out that AFT designates Advanced Field Training.  But I can't find anywhere what that actually means.  Does anyone have an idea?  I did notice another future sailor from my son's recruiting station was designated CTI without the designation of AFT, so there must be some difference.  Any ideas?

That's awesome. Didn't know they could do that right after school.
