Hi! Andie here, just introducing myself. My oldest son had his PIR on Friday and flew out today to Monterey. Wondering what he can expect there. He thinks he is going to get to come home for Christmas, but I don't know how realistic that is. Anybody know?

Graduation was yesterday (10-8) It was so great to see my son!! He and a couple other Sailors left this afternoon for Monterey. I'm sure I will be back with questions every now and then. Thanks again for the previous info. I cant wait until he is able to call us from there

Debbie- I think the guy at Best Buy said that Virgin mobile was owned by tmobile but I can't remember. If that is the case I wouldn't want to get that aircard if your son has had problems with tmobile. I guess I'm not sure how much time he will really have to go on the internet. Just trying to plan ahead Thanks to all for the info. We are trying to find him the best deal so he can save some of the money hes making.. I'm just afraid if we leave it to him he will just do whatever is easiest no matter what the cost. I know, I know, I have to let go sometime...but its not going to be today! Maybe after basic,

Do they have wifi? We have been doing more research on these cards and on the useage charges. It could really start adding up if he is does too much on the computer. I guess he will have to just figure out what is best to get when he gets there. I was just trying to help him out and I guess myself too!! Its just an easier way to communicate!

So today we looked into aircard plans for our son. We found the best deal out there is the Virgin Mobile aircard for unlimited use for $40. Do any of you know if anyone out at DLI uses this service? If so does it work alright?

So I checked the distance between the hotel we are staying at for graduation to Midway and Ohare. Both are over 40 mins away and that is with no traffic! I have definatly changed my mind about the not changing hotels thing. We will have to wait though to see what time he really is leaving and from which airport. All this waiting can make a person crazy!
We love Mexican food...may be a silly question but what are Chief Selects?

Wow that would stink!!
I hope his flight really isn't that early. I will have to check to see how close the hotel is to the airport cause I don't think I'm going to change it cause it would mean changing my parents hotel too. They want to be included every way they can, he is their first grandchild. We wouldn't miss him leaving for anything so if we have to get up super early (or not sleep at all) to be there when he leaves I guess thats just what we'll have to do.
Thanks for the website info I will be checking it out soon.

Thanks everyone for all the information. I will bring all that I can to the airport. Sad part is the other ladies from his division have said their sailors told them they are leaving at 2 AM. I have a vacation in late Oct. I know it has been said that he will not be able to leave post but can they have people come see them? That couple of hour after graduation just isn't enough!!

My son is currently at Great Lakes but found out that he will be a grad and go. He will be going to Monterey to DLI. So I have a couple of questions. What can they take with them? Phones, computers, clothes? We will be driving to gradaution so I would like to bring him what we can. How soon can we visit him? Do they have internet connection? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
