I'm not sure how long it takes for the average security clearance to be completed. However, I do think that they can begin classes before it comes through. I might be wrong.
Had not heard about the Captain's Mast yesterday, but Taylor sat in on one shortly after he got there and said it was a very traumatic thing to watch.

Janet R - Taylor was a bit nervous when he found out that they were moving up his class start date too. He's really excited, but I think a little intimidated. And Ari's right - at least they have 3 weeks to start getting in the proper frame of mind for classes.

Thanks Debbie in MD! I guess we need to start shopping around. It's good to know that some movers may offer a military discount.

Just found out that Taylor "classes up" on March 25th instead of May 1 now. That is music to my ears! There has been so much free time during the first month that its a good thing for him to get back into a really structured day schedule. And maybe the shopping will slow down a little bit ;o).

Hi CTI moms! Have any of you had experience with shipping a vehicle out to Monterey? My son has reached Phase III now and apparently he's allowed to have his car. I live in Chicago so it's just too far for me to consider driving it to him.

Hi Sk1115 - They can call and email once they get there. When did he leave for Monterey? If he doesn't have a cell phone with him, he might have to borrow one or use the pay phone. The first couple of days there are a little hectic. Phase 1 is usually about 2 weeks long - Nancy (aka Taylor's mom)

MB Jane - How did Craig do on his first test? When did his language classes actually begin?

Ladies - you were absolutely correct about the shopping. Taylor has only been there a week and he went to the mall today to buy new clothes. I just sent him 2 big boxes of the clothes he left at home, so I'm not sure where he's going to keep all of this.

KarenC - thanks for the tip about PF Chang's. Taylor's birthday is next Friday so I've sent him a gift card for a birthday dinner.

Debbie in MD - How was graduation? Does your sailor leave on Saturday for Monterey?

My son just arrived in Monterey yesterday and already went shopping at the PX (no NEX there) today. Apparently he's not even going to wait 2 weeks until he can leave the base to start shopping ;o).

Debbie - you are going to love PIR! It is really an exciting and wonderful experience.

Thank you, Ellen, Dee and Noe! I will encourage my son to do some volunteering while he's there. I can't wait to go to Monterey for a visit!

Thanks for the info Noe and Sailor Craig's Mom! So, lots of cleaning and shopping in the beginning, huh? I would say that out of all of Taylor's many talents that cleaning is not one of them. He does enjoy shopping though, so that's a little scary. He also loves to eat out, so there goes some more money. Yikes! ;o) ~ Nancy
