I want to thank all of you Navy mom's for your wealth of experience and advice, I'm a 'newbie' my daughter ships out for BC on 7/28 and then on to Monterey. I am so much more at ease knowing what she'll be doing at both, and I really appreciate knowing I can come to this board for advice, venting, a shoulder, etc. :)  NMH to all!

Hawaii may have the exclusive to being THE primo military resort. California coast is spectacular any way you look at it. If time permits, you should go from San Francisco to Santa Barbara and go along Hwy 1 as much as you can. So much to see.

KC'smom, he's found places to shop to buy a bed and a few other things for his apt. But mostly studying 7 hrs a day, then required 18 extra a week. I just hoping he can have a day over the weekend so I can take him out for a good dinner!  Any suggestions?

@Reid's mom- Jealous!!  I am right down the road from Odenton b/c it is the very next town over from Ft. Meade. Maybe 2-3 miles from me.  How does he like Maryland? If he's not familiar tell him he's only 3 hours from the beach and 1 1/2 hrs to Appalachian trail or the mountains of W. Va.  You are never far from anything when you're in Maryland! hahhahh

Your story of the wedding sounds like my son's last summer.  He married his AF bride after not having lived in the same state as her since DLI graduation.  He literally flew out to Texas to marry her on a Friday and then returned to Georgia Sunday night.  The real wedding was a month later when she finally got her orders for Georgia.

I think you are the mom that gave us ideas where to look for a place to live, KC'smom. He's in Odenton. We are hoping to come out over Father's Day to see the area. So far we got to see San Diego and all the Navy bases there and Monterey. Didn't get to Hawai'i when he was stationed at PH. Bummer

He is in Maryland and that should tell you his proficiency too! All of the Navy language in this area go to MD. I loved meeting AF, Marines, Coast Guard, Army at the graduation. Great people!  We also got to go to a wedding that afternoon. A young sailor and his baby AF bride! They were split up until last month! Now they are "together at last"....

Oh that makes me feel better.  I was really distressed about that.  they are all my kids.

For the capable ones that did not pass the DPLT, they get to study for another 6 weeks and take it again. If they do not pass the second time, they are reassigned. Some people are just not good at taking tests. Good luck to yours. Mine left Monterey in Oct. and is still in training for his job. It goes on forever! BTW, they take proficiency test regularly on the job too.
