KC's mom, your mind is going thru some worst case scenario. It's OK. It's just your emotions adjusting. Let it out. Give it a good cry. You are strong. Adjusting gets easier but of course, the 1% of the time when you are going out of your mind will still be there. No, don't count on friends w/o kids in the military to understand, especially the sudden breakdown (most of the time very short but very unpredictable). Look for a Blue Star group in your local area. They get together once a month to put together packages to send out (not just Navy - for all branches). I am very involved with our local N4M group - San Francisco Bay Area Navy Families - we have meet and greets thru out the year - sometimes it's very informal with 3 to 6 people, sometimes it's a big thing with over 25 people at a big dinner. The meet and greets are spread out over a large regional area - some in Santa Rosa, some in Walnut Creek, some in San Jose. If you are a Northern Calif person, join us. Lots of local support. Here is a photo from a meet and greet we had a while back.
Here is another one a group got together for lunch, then watch a parade on Veteran's day.
I am praying for you, KCs mom, and all who have children who serve our country. Those of us who have not experienced what you are going through cannot fully understand until it happens to us, but hopefully, we can all get through this together. God is bigger than anything we will ever face.
Looks like it did not come through - definition: SPOOK: A species of carefully selected, highly trained members of the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps who do things they can never talk about for people they do not know with little recognition from those they have served. Take solace in knowing that you are a Navy Mom, with a child who has chosen to serve and pay no attention to those that do not understand, you will never be able to make them understand. Bless you and your sailor!
I feel for you KC's mom - our children (adults) have chosen a life of service - one in which we cannot openly share their unselfish sacrifices, and it is trying at times. I, too, do not have friends or family whose child is in the military. I find solace with fellow Navy Moms on FaceBook and here, those that truly understand. There is a description of our children: 564617_10151859594612785_429379374_n%5B1%5D.jpg
hopefully this comes through
