My son is in Chinese now....actually this week will be his 1 year anniveresary in this class...wow, I can't believe it's been a year. He graduates in July ;)
Hi.Renee and soveryproudmom my sun graduated in October in Persian Farsi and just passed the test for Dari. He is in Augusta..it is definitely not Monterey, but he says he really likes it. We went to visit him a few weeks ago and went to Savannah. It is beautiful…let me know if you need any information about Augusta when it gets closer to graduation.
Hello, my SR will go thru PIR on 3/14 and on to Monterey for Chinese! She is super determined and especially not be delayed and loose her spot!
Are there any moms on here that have Sailors in Monterey already?
We stayed at the Residence Inn Waukegan/Gurnee (Marriott). It worked well. It was a bit of a drive to the airport for the Saturday send off, but at 4 am, there was no traffic. There is a big mall in Gurnee with restaurants nearby. Strolling in a mall is usually not our thing, but our January PIR was very cold, so we appreciated the non-stressful place to spend time with our sailor.
Hearing a few news reports where journalists are bemoaning their feelings that war in Syria will spread thruout that region. Not sure it is ok to even post on this topic. But it does make me realize we need to continue prayers for all of our recruits and sailors, and all branches of our military! (Not really a "news junkie"...but listen occasionally....well, now I am listening more.)
I did get tickets for my daughter and I to attend last Monday. No real deals from SLC to Chicago... I checked and checked. Then we are going to stay at one of the Marriot properites; my sister and her husband are coming up to see Michael "PIR" also....then see him off the following day; still not sure if he is G&G or not! Then my sister wanted my daughter and I to spend 1 day in Chicago seeing the big art museum there, so we are working that in too. For my budget, this will be a pricey trip, but I know it will be worth it! Getting excited about going now. Hope the time goes fast!!
Got my first letter from my son today! He said that the RTCs already knew him by name the first few days because they had to yell at him so much! He said he can now "march in step" and "fold shirts" so most of the yelling has stopped! (LOL)
He's done alot of ITEs he said, so much his "ribs are aching".....he really likes his bunkmate! At least, he is surviving!!!
I've been reading up on this so much, I am sleepy, will check on here tomorrow. Wish my husband could come with...It'll just be me and my daughter.....and the weather there, will hopefully be better by April 4th!
Susan, We stayed at Spring Hills Suites Waukegan. It was very nice. There were lots of places to eat close by. Yes, you will have to park on base. As I recall, it wasn't walking distance from outside the gates to where graduation is held. A couple weeks before his PIR date, you will have access to printing off your tickets for graduation. That, along with your insurance information and your DL, will get you on base.
