Hi KC'smom, wow your son deployed already? My son is still in training, so no deployment yet in the near horizon. @navywife+3 yes, the original contract is for 6 years since the school and add on training is so long. My son joined in May 2011 and graduated DLI in February of this year. He arrived at his duty station and began more training and that was interrupted so that he could currently attend a 30-day refresher language training so that he can DLPT test again in January, and then more training. At this rate he will actually have spent 3 whole years in training before actually doing his job and will just have 3 years left.

My son deployed last week. This is a first for me. We have an app on our phones called Dingtone- it allows free phone calls to eachother! Without using the phone company. It just requires wifi. He's in the middle of a desert & wifi barely worked & we kept getting cut off but it was nice to hear from him. He thinks he'll be there 6 months.

If you google DLI-FLC the information about the school, photos and the # of languages (and length of study) is right there. The history of the school is interesting. Another family member went there 50+ years ago in the same language; for a mere 6 months!

I think the length of the school depends on the language.  My Sailor's school is 12 months,

Im thinking six years because the school is soo long.

Thanks. I don't get to see him but twice a year now so it's not like I'm gonna miss him any more than usual! Haha! But, I send him texts everyday. I wonder if he will have cell reception.

KC' Mom--I am dreading that day myself.  My son has a few more months before deployment.  I will be praying for you and Chris, forever Ray's Proud Mom.

KC'smom, My son's 1st deployment is also coming up sooner than I want it to, but this is what they look forward to and have worked toward! My thoughts are with you and the strength to get through it.

My son has his first deployment coming up. He won't be on a ship or a sub. He will be on land in a foreign country VERY far away. :-(   I hope I will be brave.  Still haven't found any moms of aircrew CTI. I guess it doesn't matter. A son leaving is the same no matter what job title they have. He said he's not nervous. I guess he's excited. It's what he wants to do. Kinda bummed myself.
