There is a Residence Inn at Arundel Mills (Hanover, Md) - don't know how much it is, but it's really nice and right next to all the action. (Casino, restaurants, mall). A straight shot to the base ( 2 mi. down 1 road and he's there)
He called the Army lodge ... on Hawkins Drive and no availability. Made a res in Laurel MD at a Holiday Inn. Yes, the guest house sounded like a great deal--that's why there was no room in the Inn! thanks
He's leaving for Ft. Meade. Can someone recommend an extended stay hotel-- REASONABLE, until he finds an apt. near base.
Hi all
If you visit Monterey, I highly recommend staying at the historic Naval Post-Graduate School (Naval Lodge). I swear that it looks like the resort in "The Shining". It is absolutely beautiful and so convenient. And as said before, unless you have a Military ID, or dependent or retiree ID, then your sailor needs to make the reservation.
As for visiting during Thanksgiving, I took my family there for Thanksgiving last year. We cooked for our sailor and his friends. We cooked a lot of the side dishes at the lodge and cooked our Turkey in his barracks room. OMG, that was one of the best turkeys we ever had. They have this convection/microwave oven in the rooms and it works amazingly well. It was great cooking for them and visiting in the barracks. I also booked our flight on Expedia and got an awesome price of $400.00 round trip from San Antonio Tx to Monterey. That is what it cost usually just to LA and/or SF. We were pretty grateful cause for a holiday time frame, that was pretty good. To all who plan on traveling there, Have a great trip!
Yes, I've been out 3x so far and plan on going out over Turkey Day.
