Can our sailor have visitors at DLI? I understand when they are in phase 2 they are able to leave base. I was thinking of visiting at holiday time. Please advise?

Yes, greenoak, I agree. Navy Lodges are usually nice and clean. We've stayed in them in So. CA.

FOr those going to future graduations, I would ask your sailor to look into staying at the navy lodge, not the one on base but the one over by officers housing, its used mainly for families moving to and leaving base has a little kitchen area and laundry on site, most have two queen size beds if your sailor wants to get away from base for a night they can stay with you, your sailor has to book it and I would suggest way in advance, pretty reasonable, nothing fancy but clean, ask for a top floor room if anyone has allergies to animals as they are allowed in first floor, its a wonderful experience and beautiful place.

Are there any DLI grads out there still watching this site? If so, is there a "group" for ppl the place our sailors go when they go to the East coast?  Can't say the language; can't say the destination. If you have any idea about what I can't say, then message me :/   Maybe it's jet lag....

Reid's Ma, Great advise. I have to try and remember this in 9 months:) Congratulations to you and your son.  This is no small feat.  I spoke to my son over the weekend and he was bummed because he thought he had "failed" his test last week. He didn't.  He was so relieved.  I really appreciate all of your great nuggets over the last 9 months.  Good luck to your son.

For all families traveling to DLI for a graduation, hints: find your place to stay by asking ppl that have been there. It costs more to book thru booking buddy or other websites. The owner of the Inn in which we stayed in Pacific Grove told us that. Also go for a meal (breakfast) to Aliotti's Victorian Corner Restaurant in Pacific Grove--YUM!  and lastly, sit on the left side of the theater, facing the stage, for the graduation. From there you can pop into place on the wall for "the photo op" of your graduate. It was a great week for us out there. Weather was like Indiana right now, and he is ready for the next phase of a CTI in MD.

Just ret'd from Monterey and graduation! I missed the best ticket price by about a week. You just must watch it daily. Honestly, when you see a good price--book it on the spot, bc you will not find it again. Ours were about $400 ea. and it will probably be more over TG--the most traveled of holidays. Good luck. Traveloscity will notify you of the best price every day if you set it to do so.

If I am looking for flights now to go see My Dtr at DLI in california over thanksgiving which is higher rates and most traveled holiday, will the flight prices decrease at all if I wait or climb?

Hi KC's mom. The Holiday coming up is Columbus day. My son Jay won't be coming home until hopefully Christmas or New Year's. As for the DLI break, they usually take two weeks. This year it might be that they end on Friday 20 December and Return Monday, January 6th. They should be hearing something soon regarding Christmas exodus. Hopefully in time to get a good deal on plane tickets.
