Not that I know of. She was in school in Texas & he was in Georgia. He flew out on a Friday & they were married 2 hours later. There is no 48 hour wait period to apply for the marriage license for active military- you just get married right then & there. Their friend took them out to a field, did the ceremony & signed the paper! Ha! ( she is a minister ). Their motive for the impromptu wedding was to assure that she could live with him upon her arrival to Georgia rather than be assigned to a dorm & also so that they could get approved for off base housing. My son got a house knowing that she was arriving soon & they had a wedding planned.... But then he was denied housing!! Oops!!! So once he showed the papers stating he was married, housing pay was approved. They stuck with their original wedding date as planned & still had the "real" wedding after she finished school in Texas.

Kc's mom do you know if there was anything extra that your new daughter-in-law had to do before she and your son could be married?

Made flight and room reservations for October graduation. Son always says "if I don't flunk out" ...  stress is always looming. I'm getting excited already. Haven't see him since Christmas. After grad he'll drive thru here on his way East. Whew! that phase will be over.

I just got back from a trip to Georgia for my sons wedding!! He actually had a quick ceremony last month with Justice of the Peace while his girlfriend was in Texas. But now that she arrived in Georgia that had a beautiful wedding for family & friends. She graduated in his class at DLI but bc she's Air Force they had been separated for the past 9 months. Now they have their own house & are very happy. Unfortunately he has to deploy soon. I'm still trying to find a mom who has experience with a child in CTI Aircrew. Been unsuccessful for a year now.

Thanks TammySue for the info.  My son has been there 3 weeks and loves it there.  His classes will start in a couple of weeks-he may not love it so much then!!

It is a dream come true for him, too.

Ditto Master Chief Bailey...we recently came to visit our son in Monterey a few weeks ago and he talked about how you have impacted so many of the sailors under your watch.  Thank you for not only your service, but for the care you have given to our sailors..words can never really express our appreciation. God Bless you!

Master Chief Bailey, thanks for everything and enjoy retirement. My son has great respect for you as do all of us on this site. I know you will continue to make our world a better place. Enjoy!

Thank you both! He will have been there for 2 weeks on the Saturday following the 4th so I am planning on making a visit that weekend and rescheduling if he doesn't have that 4 day.

My sailor arrived there June 8, and yesterday was the first time he was allowed off base.  He said they have a 4 day holiday for the 4th, but was not sure how many weeks you have to be there before you can be away overnight.  Right now he has to be back on base each night.

kcowdin....I imagine your sailor will not be allowed off base for the first two weeks. That would cover July 4th, unfortunately.
