There is a rule that says never go to to Salinas at night. My sailor wasnt allowed to go there.

You know, I do remember my son telling me that he never wears anything off base that advertises he is in the military. He said it makes him a target for haters. He also never wears his uniform to the airport to get through security faster. Just some tips that were given to him.

Regarding Salinas.

If you need, input Salinas as keyword.

When my sons were competitive junior golfer, the Salinas Golf & Country Club (off San Juan Grade Rd) put on the best tournaments. Members were extremely nice and hospitable. I think we stayed at Comfort Inn or Best Western.

The Northridge Mall has a Macy's

Real estate wise - there are nice home off Boronda Rd - input Churchill Way to see an example of something on the market for $379K

I wouldn't go and drive all over town late at night. Call the police department ask for a map or their stats. To the best of my knowledge, the gangs do not kill miltary members. Don't wear red or blue - stay with neutral colors (gray, white, biege)

151 Kern St, Salinas, CA

You should google map it and check it out. ‎Kern St is near 101 (off ramp Market St). You can zip in and zip out.

My daughter also has not long graduated from DLI  and has eaten often at in and out burger, if you dont draw attention to yourself you should be fine, Monterey is beautiful, my husband and I visited there twice while she was there and enjoyed it very much.

Hi, my son graduated from DLI not to long ago and I have a great friend who is in the Air Force and is from Salinas. Please don't spook people about Salunas in General. Downtown Salinas is great and has the Steinbeck museum. I went there to eat from an In-&Out burger place for the first time. Also stayed at a hotel there when were traveling to Monterey from San Antonio Tx and it was midnight and I was exhausted, so we stayed there. Yes Salinas like any city especially in Cali, has gangs but its within the neighborhoods. If your sailor has never been to and In-&-Out Burger they should definitely go. Stay safe and enjoy your experience in Monterey.

My husband told me that a rule he has made for both of us is to NEVER go near or to Salinas, California. There are gangs there who KILL military members. Please feel free to warn everyone you know.

That is my thought as well!:) I know I will have been there at least once by your husband's PIR , so if you have any questions maybe I can help.

I am still getting used to all of this but from what I know he will be able to live with me once phase 1 is over, which he was told should be about 2 weeks! I cannot wait!
